Black Name-Tag [Rap]
by Elder Fawson ('94-'96)

...you got the rhytm?
yeah... alright...

well he's got the rhythm - an' he's got the rhyme
and we're here to break it down most any time

yeah
black - name - tag

we got black name tags upon our chests
and we're led by the Ortons; the churchs' best
some may boast and some may brag
but just a few wear the black name tag
twenty-four months we've been called to serve
blessings left and right we don't even deserve
three whole years the Ortons lead this mission
preachin' the word and on the side goin' fishin'
[hills to sea?], Junea to ['banks?]
while serving the Lord they don't get much [steaks?]
but the Ortons are here while they keep us in line
and they can never be replaced at any time
they pick us up each month when we start to drag
they're really gonna miss, the black name tag

aw-yeah

Elder Shrieve goes home to resume his life
he starts to search to find a wife
but finds a few and efforts lag
well such is life without the black name tag
he finds a fox and she's got a man
he finds a nag and she's got a plan
he finds the one and she's pretty awesome
but she says she's waiting for Elder Fawson

aw-yeah

en espanol yo quiero hablar
la cerveza no me gusta tomar.
Elder Peterson va en un dia
y en dos dias ama una chica.

rico - suave

we got black name tags upon our suits
thrashing this state in our insulated boots
serving the Lord, its most advantageous
workin' hard, being nothing but corageous
for twenty-four months we've been called to serve
blessings left and right we don't even deserve
we work real hard getting not much sleep
but man we sure are happy when we find those sheep

aw-chyeck
ten white shirts all pressed and neat
and pairs of holy socks that will cover our feet
we walk all day wearin' holes in our shoes
pressing forward, there's a time to snooze

whynt you go so-lo
alright

cuz we're teachin and we're preachin
every soul out there we're reachin'
we're a [passion?] when we're tractin'
there's no time out there for slackin'
where its colder we'll be bolder
as we're pushin' with our shoulder
cuz the stone will go forward even way up in the north

black - name - tag
word

each day we're up at six-thirty
ready to study from my M.G.
nine-thirty comes and its time to go
knockin' on doors in ten feet of snow
tract all day till we find that house
the family's golden and they wanna be doused
well this must be eternal bliss
cuz life don't get any better than this

yeah

we're servin' up here with all our hearts
cuz we know we have chosen the good part
we're proud to bear the Alaska flag
and never will forget, the black name tag

never will forget the black name tag

(alternative verse)

Black name tag upon our chest,
We are men, the Church's best.
Some may boast and some may brag,
But only a few wear the black name tag.
Two years without a date,
We are strong we can wait.
Our girls sit home, they'll never beg,
Their brave young men wear the Black Name Tag.
Back at home our young girl waits,
But not for long, she starts to date.
Interest soon begins to lag,
And she "Dear Johns" her Black Name Tag.
Back at the "Y", we begin life
Start our search to find a wife.
Efforts dim, begin to sag,
Such is life for a black name tag.
You find a fox, she's got a man,
You find a dog, she's got a plan.
You find the one that makes your tail wag,
And she says, she's "waiting for her black name tag."
