Jay Curtis (2001 - 2004) | Served: 2003 - 2003 | Your Occupation: missionary in heaven | Spouse: Wendi Mott | Comments: My sweet wife and I were married August 4, 2007. On December 20, 2007, I suffered from a series of grand mal seizures. After being rushed to the emergency room, it was discovered I had a massive brain tumor on the left side of my brain. We had no prior indication that anything was wrong.
At first the doctor told us it was a benign glioma that he I had since birth. The tumor was removed the day after Christmas. When we recieved the pathology report, my tumor was re-classified as an aggressive fast growing astrocytoma. Since the tumor was located in the part of the brain that controls verbal communnication and understanding, as well as movement to the whole right side of my body, I was not able to speak or understand what was being said to me for a few weeks after the surgery.
I had to completely relearn how to walk, talk, swallow, etc... I still struggle with communication, and it has been months since my surgery. Yet I have been very very blessed.
Even though I am still undergoing chemotherapy, the treatments are working and my tumor (the part that was left) is shrinking. The trouble spots are disappearing. I know I am being blessed, and I was blessed with a wonderful and supportive wife.
I hope to start schooling after I finish my treatments. I want to be a vet and work with animals, or maybe a job where I help people. Anyway, that is what I have been up to. |
