Does anyone know where Edison da Silva is living? He was the gentleman from Ala IV in Curitiba who unfortunately lost his wife and 5 sons in a car accident on the way to the temple to be sealed about 9 years ago. I was the elder who baptized his wife and have lost touch with him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Obrigado.

Extraño esos días en que estaba tan dedicada al Señor, cuando todos mis pensamientos y mis acciones tenían como finalidad su obra. Hoy me siento algo lejos, ya no es el mismo tiempo, ya no es el mismo tipo de oración ni el mismo frenesí, ya el tiempo disponible no es el mismo, ya el hábito lo perí. Ya la fuerza no es la misma, ya la dedicación disminuyó, ya son 41 años, ya hijos 2, ya un marido absorvedor, ya un trabajo devorador, ya un sentimiento de ansiedad y nostalgia, ya un día que se va y en que nada volvió a ser igual.
Tenho Saudade de aqueles tempos.

Hi! I'm Austin's mother. He's very excited to be coming to the beautiful Curitiba mission on March 31st 2004!
We've heard from several mothers who have sons in the mission there and that's so wonderful! We got one message in Portuguese, which so far, we don't understand too well. I do read Spanish and Austin had a year of that, and it seems similar. I think I figured out most of the e-mail, and replied in my poor Spanish...hope I didn't make a fool of myself!
We all appreciate the advice we've been e-mailed about clothing, shoes, weather-wear and the typical missionary diet. Fortunately, Austin loves rice, can cook quite well, loves Latino foods and loves working hard, even if it's on foot. (He walked to work several miles a day at McDonald's for two years when he was only 14 and 15.)
Austin loves the Lord and if he didn't have to work at Target to save for his mission, he'd be out daily with the elders here knocking on doors five days or six a week. He was a Ward missionary in Menomonie, Wisconsin, where we lived before we recently moved to Minnesota. He's the Young Single Adult Ward rep here and in the choir.
Austin and I are originally from Yakima, in central Washington State. Since I married William, Austin and I have lived in Denver, Colorado, then Mauston, New Lisbon and Menomonie, Wisconsin, and now Shakopee, Minnesota!! (Shakopee is the 8th fastest growing city in the U.S. and is 15 miles southwest of Minneapolis.)
Austin adapts well to being on his own and living in different places, as you can imagine. He made school honor rolls and National Honor Society for his last four years in high school despite having to move with us four times, sometimes during the school year. Sometimes he had to live with ward members so he could finish out a semester in school, when we moved during the school year. (My husband's company downsized him and his lucrative computer tech job in Denver after 9-11 and we've been moving since to find better jobs, while trying to take care of William's elderly mother with Alzheimer's. She passed away in October and now we can sell her house in Wisconsin, settle her affairs, and leave this area.
My husband and I are moving back to Yakima, WA this year to semi-retire, in the next year. So Austin will leave from Minneapolis to his mission, but return home from his mission to Yakima, Washington! In fact, the ward members in Yakima are supporting him financially a lot on his mission.
In Menomonie,Wisconsin, if Austin was not home from work, we knew he was probably out with the missionaries in that area! And they all were eager to "drop by to visit" because of good home cooking, and Austin being so willing to go on splits with them with no prior notice. Can you tell he loves missionary work?
He is loved by all the ward members everywhere we've lived. I uploaded some photos of him and the local ward members. He volunteered to play Joseph in the Ward Christmas Nativity Pageant and one of the ward sisters made his fabulous costume, she loves him so much. We have to schedule his own temple endowment session at the St. Paul temple here, in January, just to meet the schedules of members from three wards in TWO states who want to attend with him! He's going to be a great missionary there in Curitiba because he, (unlike me, his proud mom) is very, very humble and very dedicated to missionary work.
Looking forward to hearing from anybody who is in the mission or has a son or daughter there!

Um ano já se passou
Desde que o mundo inteiro parou
Choque, desespero, agonia,
Medo, rancor,
Tristeza, dor
Como descrever o que sentimos naquele dia?
Um ano depois, as imagens que se reprisam na memória
Agora fazem parte da nossa história
Porêm, ainda parece fantasia
Cenas de um filme horroroso,
Obras de um autor inescrupuloso!
Hoje o dia amanheceu diferente,
Existe um sentimento estranho dentro da gente

It is with great sadness that I read about the death of Elder A. dos Santos. He is our first missionary to pass away. Elder A. dos Santos was always cheerful and helpful. He will be greatly missed.

Em 11 de setembro eu entro no CTM então "Curitibanos" me aguardem....... nesses 5 anos em que conheci o Evangelho por meio dos Elderes sempre sonhei em Proclamar o Evangelho verdadeiro....e agora esta chegando o Dia!!!!!!!! vou completar meus 21 anos no CTM no dia 15 de setembro.....e estou muito feliz por servir em Curitiba.......... amo meu País!!!!!!!! Emo meu Salvador e por isso que ro Proclamar a todos as Boas Novas do Evangelho!!!!!!! Me aguardem....... uma Gaucha esta chegando para aprender mais com todos vcs ......... Tá logo!!!!!!!!!!!!

Elder Rich Spencer was a great man!! I had a chance to go to his funeral. And The Spirit was very strong. It was a sad meeting, and yet a very funny and up-lifting one. His story is truely tragic, but he faced his challenges with honor and courage. I hope that you all include his family in your prayers, especially his wife Amanda. God can only know of the sorrow she must feel.
