Comments:
When I arrived in Brazil in July 1958, there was only one mission in the country - A Missão Brasileira. Pres. Sorensen was my president then. In November of that year, Pres. William Grant Bangerter relieved Pres. Sorensen. In November 1959, Pres. Sorensen was back as the president of the Missão Brasileira do Sul. I was working in Joinville at the time and remained in the South Mission. My companion was David Louis Kjar from Manti, UT but soon left to become a senior companion. Elder Robert Jones Bringhurst from Alhambra, CA took his place. Elder Bringhurst and I opened up Jaragua do Sul. Bob and I are still good friends. A few months later, I was called to be the District President of the Ipomeia District. Five months or so later, Pres. Sorensen called me to be the District President of the yet unopened Florianós District. My companion, Donald Guy Croasmun, and I opened up the city of Florianópolis in the spring of 1960. (Elder Croasmun, Pueblo, CO, later passed away during his mission). There were many wonderful missionaries in the Florianópolis District. Pres. My wife is the ward Relief Society President and is a supervisor in the Oakland Temple on Fridays. I have served in bishoprics, high councils, stake missions, seventies presidencies, etc. and am currently a stake financial clerk.

Deus vive.
- Elder L. Tom Perry
Ensign, Nov. 2001
