Curtis N. Van Alfen, 48, is dean of BYU's College of Education.
A former academic vice president at BYU-Hawaii Campus, he holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Utah State Univsersity and a doctorate from the University of Utah. His Church service has included assignments as stake president, counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, stake Sunday School president, elders quorum president, and Sunday School teacher.
Pres. Van Alfen was born in Ogden, Utah, to Nicholas and Jean Holbrook Van Alfen. In 1955 he married Jeanette Bieler in the Salt Lake Temple. They are parents of five children.
Sister Van Alfen, a daughter of Paul Samuel and Itha Galbraith Bieler, was also born in Ogden. She is Relief Society homemaking leader in the Provo, Utah, Edgemont 4th Ward. She has also served as counselor in a Relief Society presidency, Primary president, teacher in Relief Society, Primary and Young Women and Relief Society inservice leader. |
