April 2004 Reunion Recap 05 Apr 2004
Reunion Recap: April 2004 It was great to see the amount of people that came to the reunion on Friday night April 2nd. We had approximately 110-120 former missionaries and some of their spouses (and spouses to be). It was an informal gathering with food and a short program. The former missionaries that attended spanned the time from when we first arrrived to those who recently returned and there was a good showing from each era-Beatsons, Fridens and Barneys. Sister Friden gave a message from Sister Beatson that she sent via e-mail and shared it with the Beatson missionaries. Sister Friden then shared her testimony and informed everyone that the "U.S. finally let her become one of us-a U.S. Citizen". Applause was heard all around. The message that I delivered was similar to the one that I gave to all of the missionaries at the time of my exit interview. I spoke to the fact that we have Prophets, Seers and Revelators on the earth to today in addition to the Gift of the Holy Ghost to help us in making correct choices. For instance, in today's world people are confused as to the roles of men and women and the role of the family as evidenced by what is happening in Massachusetts, San Francisco and other large centers where Satan is trying to redefine the make up of the family unit. Prophets, Seers and Revelators saw this coming back in 1995 and spoke definitively on it then and do so today through the Proclamation on the Family. (Many of the conference talks this weekend spoke to this subject, specifically Elder Perry's talk on Sunday morning.) If you will all remember, I gave you one pamphlet that I told you would be of the utmost importance in your lives, that of the Proclamation on the Family. I suggested to you that success in your lives doesn't depend on your occupation or how much money you make, rather the type of husband or wife you become to your spouse and the example that you set for your children and your posterity. I believed that then and I even more firmly believe that now. I bore my testimony that we are God's sons and daughters, that Jesus is the Christ and that He atoned for us, that Joseph Smith was the Prophet of the Restoration and translated the Book of Mormon by the gift and power of God and that this is our message to the world This is the difference between us and other religions of the world, that God sends revelation to His authorized servants for the world to hear, and that we have a living Prophet on the earth today, with Twelve Apostles to assist him in carrying out the Lord's commandments. Our charge is to follow them and act on the things that they tell us. This is what happened at the reunion and we hope you all enjoyed the conference weekend as much as we have! Love, The Fridens
