Answers

1. The California Riverside Mission is operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The Mormons). A mission is a geographical area where representatives of the church are assigned to serve. There is a mission president who oversees the operation of the mission. This mission president communicates with the leaders of the church and assumes responsibility for looking after the 150-200 young people and older couples who are assigned to his mission at any one time. Neither the missionaries nor the mission president and his wife are paid by the Mormon Church. They volunteer 18 months-3 years of their lives to help spread the teachings of the church. The California Riverside Mission was established in 1990. There are more than 200 of these "missions" throughout the world with over 55,000 missionaries serving in them. To learn more about the Mormon Church visit its website by clicking here.

2. As stated on the main page, this web site is not sponsored by the California Riverside Mission or the LDS Church. This site is run by Russ Hill. Russ served in the mission from 1992-1994. He served under President Jerry M. Hess and President Alton M. Alexander. Russ decided to begin this web site after being asked to by several other returned missionaries. This site has been in existence since late 1996. It has grown from an unknown spot on the web to the home of more than 280 returned missionaries. There are sites similar to this one for more than 150 other missions of the church. (To locate a site for another mission simply visit www.mission.net.) The current leadership of the California Riverside Mission is aware of this site and has even helped provide some of the information posted here. The past presidents of the mission, Jerry Hess and Alton Alexander, are also aware of this site and sometimes visit it. Material provided by these two men and their wives is also published here. To contact the maintainer of this site, Russ Hill, send him an email at russ@xmission.com.
