California Sacramento Mission

President and Sister Porter (1981-84)

President John W. Porter was born and reared in Illinois, attended schools there and completed his formal education at the University of Illinois where he graduated with a BA in Accounting.

John courted and married Margaret Gorsuch in Dallas, Texas in 1942 and they are the proud parents of one son and two daughters. They have since been blessed with 17 grandchildren.

The entire family was converted to the Church and baptized in Ft. Worth, Texas, in December of 1958. Very soon thereafter the Porters moved to Denton, Texas and became involved with the establishment of the Church in that area.

Since their mission, the Porters have been extremely active in many different leadership positions in the church and local business communities. They have served as temple workers in the Dallas, Texas temple and continue to enjoy many associations with missionaries from the mission field.

The Porters spent their time in the California Sacramento Mission exhibiting great enthusiasm and love for the Savior, each missionary and for the missionary work. The mission experience is one they will remember throughout their lives as they continue to serve the Lord in many different capacities.
