Obituary of President Leo L Douglas 29 Jul 2008
Leo LeRoy Douglas 1928 ~ 2008 Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and son passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, July 27, 2008. He went happily, softly dancing and singing, into the waiting arms of our loving mom, his eternal partner,Barbara. Born May 5, 1928 in the East Millcreek area of the Salt Lake Valley, he spent all but a few years of his life in the shadows of Mt. Olympus. The son of Joe and Annie Douglas, dad had a spirited and eventful childhood. His father died when dad was only 16, so after graduating from Granite High he went to work to take care of his family, and has been taking care of everyone in his life ever since. Dad loved the outdoors; many a weekend would find him fishing, hunting, golfing, playing tennis or working in his yard. His true passion was his family and he loved spending every available minute with those he loved most. Dad met our mom while in High School and their love was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 30, 1949. Barbara was the love of his life and he often referenced that he couldn't believe she picked him out of all her other suitors; he considered himself truly a "lucky" man. They had three children, whom they taught the Gospel and the lessons of life, and nurtured throughout life's struggles and disappointments. Dad was a great leader for and servant of his Lord, Jesus Christ, as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many positions, and is remembered as a loving Bishop in the Holladay 22nd ward, a devoted Mission President in the California, San Jose Mission (1987-1990) and a faithful temple worker. During his years of service he became an avid scouter and was awarded the Silver Beaver. Dad was a great friend to most, a formidable opponent to some, and a true gentleman to all. He is survived by his children, Skip (Lauralee), Tami (Ron Feulner) and Sean (Ann), 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and his sister Millie Greaves. Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his parents, Joseph and Annie, his brothers, Francis "Bud" and Richard, his grandson, Jared and his dog, "Kitsu". Funeral services will be held Fri., August 1, 2008 at the LDS Wasatch Building, 11196 South Wasatch Blvd. at 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
