To All Cambodia Phnom Penh Mission Alumni:
A momentous event is in the planning for this coming fall 2006! As you may already know, President and Sister Towers will be returning home this July after serving 3 years in the BEST MISSION IN THE WORLD! We would like to welcome home our newest alumni, and also celebrate the achievements of our mission by organizing a COMBINED mission reunion to include the generations of President White, President Colton, and President Towers.
For this "birthady" celebration, an informal committee has been formed to begin organizing details. However, we would like to solicit your ideas and suggestions for the program or any other activities you would like to see done, so that this will be an experience that will truly allow us to reflect back on our time in Cambodia.
We would especially appreciate input from the Vietnamese speaking elders as well as those who served under President White. Please contact us via email if you have any suggestions. Your input will be greatly appreciated.
Also, as a matter of inquiry, several suggestions have been made that we hold the reunion the Friday AFTER the October 2006 General Conference. Usually we hold it the Friday of General Conference, but traffic is often too congested and buildings are hard to reserve. Please let us know if this is a viable option.
If you would like to participate in the planning for this reunion, please let us know by sending us an email. We look forward to hearing back from you soon!
Thanks,
Mission Reunion Committee, Fall 2006
(Garrett Soong, Tom Stock, etc.)

My sister is compiling an essay collection that focuses on the experiences of Sister missionaries in the mission field. She has expressed interest in including an essay written by an American Sister who served in Cambodia or a Cambodian Sister, regardless of where she served. If you would like more information, please email me and I can provide you with a more complete description of what she has in mind.

Everyone,
Sorry for this last minute notice. I know that many of you have been wondering whether we would have a mission reunion this fall. Good news! An informal mission reunion committee has been put together and we are currently working out the minor details. Be aware that you may be asked to help out. We do not have a specific location at the moment, but it will most likely be held in Provo. We will let you know when a location has been decided ASAP.

Hopefully we'll see you there. Keep posted for the definite location of the reunion. Please RSVP to Jessica Allen ASAP to receive your assignments. If you have any questions, call me, Garrett Soong at (808) 205-8228 or email me at kekaulana37@hotmail.com

In case anyone is interested in doing some translating, there is a service called Language Line (www.languageline.com) which does mostly phone translation- so you can be anywhere and help out our Khmae friends:)

Everyone,
Elder Stock is preparing a slide show for the upcoming reunion. If you would like to contribute mission pictures, he is currently accepting them via email at appletom253@hotmail.com. He is specifically requesting pictures from missionaries who have RECENTLY returned so that we can see the change and growth of the mission as it is today. However, older pictures are also welcomed. He would appreciate pictures that include members, missionaries, significant events and basically anything dealing with the mission in Cambodia. Pictures don't have to be serious, but can be funny, as long as they are appropriate. If you have any questions, please email him directly. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU SEND YOUR PICTURES TO HIM ASAP SO THAT HE CAN PREPARE ADEQUATELY AND INCLUDE YOUR PICTURES IN HIS PRESENTATION.
Thanks for your help and cooperation. I'll be looking for some good pictures.
Regards,
Garrett Soong

A picture of Sanrithy "Daniel" Un is posted for your reference and spiritual boost.
|
| |
Sanrithy Un was baptized and joined our ward on January 22, 2005.
With this email, I am solictiting ideas on how we can better integrate him into the Church.
So far, he is doing great, but I think he would appreciate relationships with people who understand both the Cambodian and LDS cultures.
Sanrithy, who goes by "Daniel", is single and in his late 30's. Friendly. Outgoing. Loves people. Loves to talk. Loves to learn. Very disciplined and focused on what he wants out of life. Loves to help out where he can. All these things describe Sanrithy.
Is there anyone in Mesa or Metro-Phoenix we may introduce him to? Where is the nearest organization of LDS Cambodians that he might affiliate with? Any other ideas how this ward mission leader and his ward may more fully meet his needs?
Thank you very much in advance.
Sincerely,
Scott Jordan
