We have 2 Sons, Matthew and Timothy. Three granddaughters and 2 grandsons.
I have served in many church positions and currently teach in our high priest group.
Before serving my own mission I lived in La Cisterna (Santiago) with my parents, Fred and Ruth Johnson and my sister Karen. My Father built the chapel in La Cisterna on Brisas de Maipo Street Paradero 23.
When we first arrived President Palmer was serving. His son, Howard and I became friends and he started teaching me my first Spanish.
The Palmers soon returned to Canada and the Beecrofts took over. Their daughter, Katie and I were friends also. The Beecrofts were very kind to my family. My sister, Karen was very ill. The Beecrofts invited her and my mother to stay at the mission home at Alcántara 360 so that Karen’s doctor could come to see her.
Some other gringos at that time were the Gardners who built the Ñuñoa chapel, the Harding family, a really tall guy whose last name was Castelton who was in the Peace Corps and married Nilda Pinto.
We were in La Cisterna, Chile for 2 years and seven months. I had a lot of great experiences. Sometimes I got to fill in for sick elders. We had the privilege of meeting a few general authorities. Elder Spencer W. Kimball came to our home to give my sister a blessing.
I was overjoyed to get my own call to Chile. I love Chile and am somewhat of a fanatic about the place. My wife and I hope to serve a mission there someday.
Some of my companionsa are not on the Alumni list. Those I rememember are: Elder Marques from Uruguay, Kelby Burgon from Utah,
Terry Jennings from Mesa, AZ Plus others that I can see in my mind's eye but can't remember the names. I'll try to update later. |
