Marné Whitaker Tuttle, age 93, died March 10, 2014. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Marné was born, August 6, 1920, in Morgan, Morgan County, Utah to Dora Edith Boyce and Wilford Woodruff Whitaker, Marné was the oldest of 11 children. Said her mother shortly after her birth, "She looks like a Kewpie when I wash her head and chin, only a million times cuter and sweeter!" She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Theodore Tuttle, whom she married on July 26, 1943, in the Manti Temple, her parents, her brothers Ballard, Tom and John, and her sisters Eugenia, Dora and Yvonne. A sister, Jean Griffin, a brother Wilford and twin brothers Richard and Robert, survive her as well as all of her children to whom she was an exemplary mother: David Merrill (Billie), Diane (David) Hoopes, Robert Theodore (Debra), Clarissa Marné (Brian) Smith, Jonathan Whitaker (Carol), Melissa (Paul) Pieper, Boyd Jeremy (Holly) and 44 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren. A lifelong student, she played the violin, learned shorthand, spoke Spanish, expressed on canvas, in sculpture, and in song the beauty she saw in others and in nature. Being an avid gardener, she created beauty and bounty and shared her home, heart and harvest. Marne' epitomized the meaning of charity, grace, obedience and service to family and friends. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she accompanied her husband, Elder A. Theodore Tuttle, on many Church assignments, as President of the South American Mission (1961-65), and when he served in area presidencies in South America. She was Matron of the Provo Temple when her husband was Temple President (1979-82). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 11:00 am in the Forest Bend LDS Ward Chapel, 7784 South Highland Drive (2000 East), Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Family and friends may attend a visitation Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Forest Bend Ward Chapel and also at an additional viewing Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will follow services at Mountain View Memorial Estates in Salt Lake City, Utah. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church.
