Terezin 01 Jun 2010
Did anyone go to Terezin, the concentration camp? I'm taking my wife back to Prague in July and she has some personal interest in Jewish community. I was wondering if Terezin is easy to get to by bus and if it's accessible.

Thanks, Ray Daniels

Language Help for Future Missionaries 17 May 2010
Dear Brothers and Sisters:

The young men’s presidency of the West Jordan, Utah Welby 3rd Ward has
been actively engaged in the development of the young men to serve
honorable missions. As one of our activities, the young men’s program
will be attempting to set a world record for reading the title page of the
Book of Mormon in the most languages. The current world record set for
this type of event stands at 111 languages for a poem read last year.

Over the next few months, the young men will be experiencing what it is
like to have to speak a foreign language as they hone their skills and
working on the pronunciation of the various words that comprise the title
page of the Book of Mormon. We are asking them to prayerfully seek
assistance from the Lord so that can gain a small understanding of what it
will be like in the mission field.

However, although we have several returned missionaries that are helping
with the pronunciation; we have need of assistance in the actual phonetic
translation or Romanization of many more. As an example of what we are
looking for….the word “India” may be pronounced (In-dee-uh).

We ask that if you or anyone you know has language ability in the following
languages, please contact Brother Chris Isbell via email at
welbymissionary@mail.com. We have the title page scans in a format that is
both acceptable for the Guinness World Record group and easy for the young
men to read. Your assistance will be noted and recognized during our world
record attempt.

We sincerely appreciate your consideration and look forward to any support
you may be able to provide as we attempt to prepare the young men for
honorable missionary service, attempt to set a new world record, bring more
publicity to the Book of Mormon and strengthen our quorums.

Sincerely,

Chris Isbell

New Missionaries headed to Prague 18 Apr 2010
Elder Shelby Gibson and the others in his zone fly out tomorrow (Monday, April 19, 2010) from the Provo MTC. They are scheduled to arrive in Prague at 7:45 am on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. His call was issued October 13, 2009 and 6 short months later, he is headed out. This missionary Mom is both excited and nervous. Glad he's entering the mission "field" but nervous for his flight and time out of the states. I know he is where the Lord wants him, and that all will be well. D&C 1:20-23 and 30 "...That every man might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world; That faith also might increase in the earth; That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the week and the simple unto the ends of the world, and before kinds and rulers... And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased,..."

Toronto Foundation 2010 Annual Service Project 10 Apr 2010
Toronto Foundation 2010 Annual Service Project
and Summary of the 2009 Service Project in Kosice

The Toronto Foundation is pleased to announce the date and location of its 2010 annual service project as the first weekend in September 2010, in Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic. The Toronto Foundation, its volunteers, and supporters are excited about the prospect of service in this wonderful city. Mark your calendars and make plans to join the Foundation for this exciting service event. For more information about the Toronto Foundation or the 2010 Service Project, please visit the Foundation’s website at www.torontofoundation.org or contact one of the Foundation’s directors.

On the third weekend in September 2009, Toronto Foundation supporters and more than 110 volunteers gathered for two days in Kosice, Slovakia to provide physical and financial assistance to Slovak based Pro Futura, ETP Slovensko, and a local Kosice elementary school. Toronto volunteers helped gather and prepare essential needs packets for low-income families, cleaned and painted at a local elementary school, and helped build row houses at a Roma settlement just outside of Kosice. The Toronto Foundation’s Slovak based partners in this year’s annual service project, Pro Futura and ETP Slovensko, are both non-profit organizations committed to improving support, help, and care for low income and Roma families throughout Eastern Slovakia. In particular, these organizations provide physical, financial, commodities, and housing assistance to hundreds of families in need. Toronto supporters and volunteers donated financial assistance, building supplies, commodities, and hundreds of hours of volunteer work to each of this year’s in-country partners.

For more information about the Toronto Foundation’s 2009 in-country project and the foundation’s in-country partners, please visit www.torontofoundation.org.

The Toronto Foundation is a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah that supports grassroots humanitarian and educational projects in the former Czechoslovakia. Established in March of 2003 by a group of returned LDS missionaries, the Toronto Foundation has funded and sponsored numerous projects in the Czech and Slovak Republics in large part due to the generous tax deductible contributions of its friends and supporters.

Help Support the Toronto Foundation Annual In-Coun 06 Mar 2010
Each year in September, the Toronto Foundation and hundreds of volunteers gather for two days to provide physical and financial assistance to local Czech and Slovak charities and organizations. Over the years, support for the annual in-country project among the LDS members of the Czech Republic and Slovakia has steadily increased. In 2009, for example, more than 110 volunteers traveled from all over the two countries and the United States to Kosice, Slovakia to provide physical and financial support to three different projects. The annual event is both exciting and satisfying. Much good is being done. A record number of volunteers are expected to participate in the 2010 project.

That said, each project comes with a price tag and this is a call for financial help and support to those who have served or are connected to these wonderful countries. ALL contributions to the Toronto Foundation are used exclusively to facilitate and fund foundation projects. The members of the Foundation’s board donate their own time, travel expenses to and from projects, and resources. Any contribution to the Foundation would be used entirely to fund and facilitate in-country service. Please consider donating. You can do so by arranging a monthly debit / contribution by visiting the Foundation’s website www.torontofoundation.org or by mailing a donation to the Toronto Foundation at 175 East 400 South, Suite 900, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. Any donation helps. Our goal is to raise between $5,000 and $10,000 for this year’s project.

The Toronto foundation, its volunteers, and in-country partners thank you in advance for your support. The 2010 in-country project is scheduled to take place the first weekend in September in Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic. ALL are invited to participate and attend. Please visit the Foundation’s website www.torontofoundation.org or Facebook page for more information and/or to RSVP.

New Webmaster 19 Oct 2009
Well...I've toyed with the idea for a couple of months now, but I think it's time for me to step down as webmaster. I've done just about everything that I can for the site and have run out of time to do more.

Let me run down some of the responsibilities of the webmaster and then you can let me know if you're interested in taking over.

1) monitor postings - I've had it on auto-approve for the past couple of years since, as I said, I've been running out of time. It's best to not do auto-approve.
2) Keep the site updated and fresh. I used to try to think of new things to add, but my web knowledge and my time both ran out. I hope you enjoy the things that I was able to get together.
3) Help people stay connected with the mission. I have never had a good contact within the mission to update me on news, so that portion could use more work.

It does take some time, but it's not really consuming. But I've got 5 kids now and my time is a precious commodity these days.

Requirements:
*Be an RM of the Czech Prague mission
*Have some web design knowledge
*Be a member of the church in good standing
*Have a sense of adventure (one of the things I'll miss about being webmaster is reading the interesting emails people send me).

So, if you have interest, just click the "Comments" link on the right hand menu.

Thank you all for your support over these last 8 years or so that i've been the webmaster. It's been a fun ride. i've gotten to know several of you because of this position. Please keep in touch. Dovidenia!

Great food, and FUN! 01 Jul 2009
Thanks to Lisa and Dan Bergantz for hosting a great picnic up in Stansbury Park!

The food was yummy as usual. I enjoyed renewing memories of pedaling a paddle boat on the lake. I might not pick it up as a hobby seeing that my one year old wanted to jump in the water and the girls weren't to anxious to "enjoy the scenary".

I look forward to hearing about your success on this years service project. Hopefully more of us will be able to support the church in the Czech and Slovak Republics 20th Year milestone next year!
