A Helping Hand
Saturday, 1 November 1997, saw members from the
Cheltenham Stake rolling up their sleeves at a Northfield Road, Gloucester, site as part
of their commitment to the community. "We were surprised they were prepared to clear
up rubbish and so forth, but they said it was just the sort of work they wanted,"
said playground development worker Jim Lockhart. "There were 20 teenagers and 5
adults, and they were a great help in clearing the site."
Included in the work were dwellings to be
demolished. Work on the new playground began in January, making full use of the young
volunteers' efforts. Eventually the new playground will boast scramble nets, a rope slide,
a climbing frame, platforms, a rope bridge, a firefighter's pole, slides, and swings. - Jennifer
