Charity Market a Success

For many years, Sandra Hancox and Mary Bowling of the Paigton Ward, Plymouth Stake, have worked in the community with the Totnes Elizabethan Society, which raises money for charity. Sandra, who has served as chairman for six years - the longest serving of any chairman - has been aided by Mary, who is secretary.

During the summer season, one of the weekly highlights is the Charity Market held each Tuesday morning. Stall holders, roving musicians, and theme characters make Elizabethan-style costumes to wear during the season. Begun originally to draw tourist trade to the historical town, the Elizabethan focus is also supported by a craft fair and local cafes, creating a picturesque sight of characters moving along the ancient main street. - Margaret Woods, Walsall Ward, Lichfield Stake
