George Howell Jones Called As President of London Temple

George Howell Jones of the Chicester Ward in the Portsmouth Stake has been called to preside over the London Temple.

President Jones served as mission president in the Bristol Mission, as executive secretary to the Area Presidency, as president of the Leicester Stake and as bishop in Leicester and Chichester. He is a retired executive with the British Shoe Corporation where he specialized in display and presentation. A native of Coed-poeth in North Wales, he grew up in Llanfairfechan, speaking only Welsh until he was ten year old. His artistic talent qualified him with honours from the Royal Drawing Society of London. President Jones was baptised by his son Julian in 1971.

His wife, Edna, will serve as the temple matron. They met during their service in the RAF as photographers where they were first introduced during processing time in the darkroom. They worked together for some time before they were able to set eyes on each other.

Sister Jones has served as stake Young Women president, and ward Relief Society president. She was baptised in 1962. President and Sister Jones have been married 56 years and have two sons. - John Asmead, Solihull Ward, Coventry Stake
