Well, I'm kind of sad that no one responded to may request. I am either very unpopular of there is a general lack of interest on the part of missionaires from the FTM during the years I was there. either way, I'm interested and now that I have found this site, I still have hope. I would love to hear from some of you. If anyone has any news about my good friend K. Richard Horner (and many others), I sure would like to get in touch again. Rick Rivera 77-79

Friday I attended the funeral of Sister Ruth Karren. When we were missionary companions in the FTM, in 1978, in Lutz, I was 21 and she was 60 years old. She died at the age of 85, after a year of serious illness.
She loved to tract. She was very energetic, and hard to keep up with. One of her famous sayings was, "If the Lord meant them to have the gospel, then they wouldn't have a dog," so we always skipped the houses with a fenced yard. If I remember right, we had two baptisms, Ruth Danowski and Carolyn Brown, (who we taught the 6 weeks we were companions).
Sister Karren was widowed in 1971. She left for her mission from Pleasanton, California, but she was raised in Cache Valley, Utah, so they had her funeral here in Logan. She lived recently in Federal Way, Washington, and then spent the last two years with her son in Orem, UT. At the time of her death, she had 8 children, 41 grandchildren, and 49 great grandchildren.
They had the most beautiful family men's choir, singing at the funeral. Some of her children spoke. They mentioned that her mission was one of the hardest times of her life. Her favorite saying was, "When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on." I like that one.
She was buried in the Lewiston Cemetery.
