Scheible and François - war 23 Mar 2003
Elder Scheible - I would just like for you to answer as to why you think Pres. Bush has actually put us into Iraq and then give us the great solution the world is looking for to help Saddam step down peacefully?!

Gilles François - The New Testament is great and very very important to know and understand, but what about the Book of Mormon? When the Gadianton robbers began to destroy the freedom and peace and harm the land of the Nephites they united with their brothers (who were not fond of them) the Lamanites, to completely destroy the robbers as they saw the eventual devastation these terrorists would evoke on their land. Just as some of the great leaders of the Nephite people learned sometimes the answer is to fight terror and tyranny head on with force. And did not American and French revolutions result from tyrannical rule and suppression of rights just as Saddam reigns over his people.

This is not a war over oil and political gain, but to destroy a terror and threat to all people the world over from the reign of a regime such as Saddam's.
I pray for our troops and for this thing to end soon and that a peace that is in no way a free, give will reign in place of tyrannical dictatorship.
Love y'all, especially my French friends!!

I respect Canada for not following the USA like a drone, whether the decision is right or not, every country must make their own decision.

The War 22 Mar 2003
I have to say that i am getting very frustrated with many things. It seems to me that the French Government and the US Government are telling their respective countries different things. I have had a few different emails from different families that I know in France. I am so very tired of their lack of knowledge and understanding which obviously stems from what the media is feeding them. Maybe some of you have thought of this, but does anyone remember someone by the name of Hitler??? No one cared to take very much notice of him until he had taken over a few countries. No one knew of the things he did to the Jews and to his own people. I do not belive Saddam to be of the same level of power, but i do believe him to be a dictator doing things that are just as bad, but not of the same magnitude, as Hitler. I just do not understand how people think that Bush is going to war over oil, gas, petrol whatever you want to call it. The United States learned their lesson. I am glad that we are doing what we are doing. I believe in standing up for what is right. Of helping others, and I believe that if Captain Moroni or any other great men of the Book of Mormon were here today, they would feel the same. If I or my country can do something to make the world a better place, I am totally for it.
I'm not writing this to get a response. I just feel like this is the best place to let my feelings be heard on the subject since it is way too expensive to call France.

Bien affectueusement,
Rayms

I never managed to get a patch of the French flag. I was wondering if anybody could tell where I could get a backpack patch...

France U.S. relations 20 Mar 2003
I think it’s great that France has taken a stance on the war. In fact I think it’s great that they are opposed to war. They have a right to be. I think it’s wise not to go against the UN’s request. France isn’t sitting on any fence. They have clearly chosen a side. France isn’t the only country, either. Germany, Russia, China, Canada…these countries have all declared that they will not aid in the attack on Iraq at this time. At least not until it is sanctioned by the UN. Russia and China are being very vocal on this matter as well. The truth is that many of these countries, France included, will be there to clean up the damage in Iraq. They will go in and help rebuild the nation. This is called a humanitarian effort. It’s the only humane action in war, and it happens after the death and carnage. Will France be there to help in that effort? I believe so. But this will happen after the bombs stop falling, the firing ceases, and the stars and stripes have been raised in Baghdad. I still carry the red, white, and blue flag on my backpack everyday. La Liberté, Fraternité, et Egalité.

Strange Mails for Stranger Times 20 Mar 2003
It is always sad when situations deteriorate to war. We all agree regardless where we are from.

I just came back from Washington DC and it was truly awful to see the level of warmongering in the press/ TV and the blatant manipulation evident. However, I live in Europe and I am also aware of the blatant angle that the media takes here - on the opposite side of the discussion.

Basically, we just need to have open eyes, minds, and hearts and listen to the "still small voice" regardless what our politicians say.

However, what is apparent is that the democracy as in the voice of the people has spoken very clearly. This just happens to be diametrically opposed. However as for respecting democratic priniciple the French government has listened to its people - as much as the US has listened to its people. Our man Tony Blair in the UK has been completely "undemocratic" in his support for the US - if you base democracy solely on listening to the people. If, however, you perceive democracy as representing more than immediate respresentation of the people, well then maybe Tony Blair is right.

Interestingly, Tony goes to church - for real. This is the first time for some 60 years we have had a church going Prime Minister. Sadly, he is not LDS but it is better than a mad-crazed son of a...........Heavenly Father.

As for why we comment on this point - we do live in the real world and we should create opinions on all things - you cannot be the salt of the earth unless you mix with the earth.

Lets pray this all ends as soon as possible.

France - US 20 Mar 2003
France needs to stop sitting on the fence and stand up for what is right! Saddam Huissen, Osama bin Laden, and other are evil men with extreme power. They need to be controled.

Does anyone remember what happened to the gadianton robbers or the laminites when Moroni had to put them in their place?

Let's stop giving evil men to much credit. They are thugs and need to be removed from power. God has supported such missions all throughout history.

France needs to start standing up for what is right!
