Dax 26 Mar 2007
Well, well, well,

Dax is definitely closed. Dax members are dispatched between Bayonne, Pau and Mont de Marsan.
Mont de Marsan is still opened. If you go there, you will find members but no missionary. They are meeting in a hotel because the house they used to rent was not secure enough.
There is NO plan about closing Mont de Marsan.

DAX 24 Mar 2007

french elections 16 Mar 2007
I didn't have a chance to finish my message!
So, the reason why we only hear about Sarkozy and Royal is the effect of the last presidential election. In 2002, the last two competitors were Chirac and LePen (right wing, sort of fascist dude). So the media networks are doing their best to avoid this result again.
This campaign is fun between Sarko who knows everything and does his best not to be extreme in his ultra-liberalism and Sego (Royal) who knows nothing of the French politics and policies. She has made lots of stupid comments (about the Chinese justice, Quebec, abusive husbands in France = she said she wanted to create a new law about this and this law does exist for one year...)
Nobody knows what will happen. The only truth is : all the candidates are doing their best efforts to answer the French people concerns and promise everything. Even if they it will impossible to implement. Sometimes they also promise things that will happen automatically. For example, Sego promised the minimum wage will be at 1500 euros per month before taxes in 2012 (2007+5years, you see?). This will be the case anyway if you consider the annual rise of this minimum wage.
French people seem to be fed up with that kind of politics. They show no interest for that campaign and are waiting real economic solutions. Since the implementation of the euro currency some prices have increased by 30%. You don't see it on your bill (price is the same but quantity is reduced).

This election will change nothing. Except some extreme rally may be present in the race after april 22.

We'll see.

Don't expect a change in the French US relationships especially in the military help we may give to US. We have not troops to deploy! It is as simple as this. That's the reason why we didn't follow you in Iraq. At that time, we would have been able to send only 1,000 servicemen. The rest of our troops are already deployed. Some servicemen are even unable to take their holidays. They serve overseas for 4 months come back 3 months and are deployed again. Some soldiers spend only three months a year in France. If Sego is president, she will reduce the Defence budget.

French Elections 16 Mar 2007
the race is getting a lot tighter in France. Sarkozy still leads but not by much. The main change is the emergence of Bayrou. Here is the latest poll data. Mr Sarkozy with 27%, Ms Royal with 26%, and Mr Bayrou with 23%. So far if Bayrou makes it through the first round which means he is one of the top two the polls show he will win in a landslide over both Sarkozy and Royal, being that he is the middle candidate. The French elections are incredibly volatile and alot changes from week to week so its impossible to guess exactly what is going to happen. two weeks ago it looked like Sarkozy would walk away with it which would probably be good for French US relations but who knows.

If anything feel dreadfully sorry for the entire Romney family. Their lives will be trawled over for two years and this cannot be fun. This takes commitment.

As for France - generally Sarkozy is the name you here more often on the ground. This is a general backing of a move towards more business minded and centre right. He is a good enough guy from immigrant parents from communism who Chirac dislikes. Sounds good to me!

Tagg 01 Mar 2007
I know that he was already in the mission when I got there in Mar 91 and had been for some time. I think he was with the Curt Christensen group who were the first called to the Bordeaux Mission. I didn't know Taggert all that well, just met him three or four times at zone conferences, but he was a great missionary. Has anyone heard from him in a while? I'm sure he's busy helping his dad at this point.

Tagg Romney 28 Feb 2007
Everyone who served with Tagg will remember him well. He was a great missionary. He wasn't actually in the mission when it was created, but I believe that he was in the first wave of new bleu's that came to the mission; One of the first to actually be called to Bordeaux. I think I was the first companion he had in France, but that was twenty years ago! I'd have to break out the journals to be sure.

Taggart Romeny 28 Feb 2007
How many of you know that Mitt's son Taggart served in the France Bordeaux Mission?! If memory serves correct, he was there at the start of the mission.
