Comments:
I have been married for nearly 22 years, w/5 children. My oldest is now serving in Miami-Spanish.

One great memory goes back to April, 1983 when I learned 6 months would be shaved from my mission (remember?). I had been moaning for two days when, on a Paris bus, another Elder (tired of my whining) said: "Don't you think the Lord knew of this plan just a little bit before you received your call? Don't you think He might know what He is doing?" Ouch!

The day prior to my release, a girl I had dated became "unattached." Guess what: We were married on the very day I would have been released had there been no change. It was not until we were in the Temple that I realized the coincidence.

Now, was that the ONLY reason the Prophet announced shorter missions? No. But, that Elder's comments have rung true ever since. The Lord DID know of the change prior to my call. His plan is neither random, nor uninspired. It just happened, that on that occasion, I was able to make personal sense of it.
