Stories: President Crockett

Every missionary thinks their Mission President was the best and most spiritual. In this case I agree. President Crockett was not only our surrogate father, but he brought along our mother and siblings as well!
He came to Paris one month after me. He had a pretty wife, nice kids, a great job, and très chouette hobbies. (I saw him rebuild at least one Mercedes Coupe with his son.)
When it came time for my exit interview President Crockett told me something he had done (regarding transfers), and asked my opinion. Thinking I was quite the sage, by this point, I told him that "my observation would have dictated a different decision."
He took my answer in stride. He even thought about it for a moment. Then, without the least bit of condescension, said: "Well, Elder Carlson, thank you. I guess it was a good thing I asked the Lord for his input first, I might not have listened otherwise!"
That was just one learning moment from President Crockett that has served me well over the years. Soooo many others.
