Sad News 23 Jul 2004
Those of us who served in Georgia in the mid-seventies are saddened by the news of the passing of C Shane Merrill. He was a great Missionary, a spiritual giant and a great man. Complications to his Diabeties was the cause. Our prayers are with his wife, Marla, and his family.

Catching you up. 09 Aug 2003
Effective July 1, the Georgia Atlanta Mission will be split into the Georgia Atlanta and Georgia Atlanta North. There are four stakes in each mission. In GA Atlanta, you have the Atlanta, Jonesboro, Powder Springs, and Columbus Stakes. In the Atlanta North, you have Marietta East, Roswell, Sugar Hill and Lilburn Stakes.

The Atlanta mission covers the actual city of Atlanta, south and west areas, to the Macon area (which becomes another mission). The Atlanta North is north and east. If you received a second map outlining certain
stakes, then that is probably the more accurate map that you will cover in
your mission.

Whoa, a SPLIT, eh? 09 Aug 2003
Hey, someone please catch me up! This guy's message is the first I've heard of this.

When and where is this mission splitting? What's the new one gonna be called? Why are they splitting it without first getting permission from ME?

Thank You! Oh and By The Way... ;) 14 Jun 2003
Thank you so much! I received a dozen or so responses to my plea, and I am so grateful! You guys are awesome!

It turns out that I will be serving in the Georgia Atlanta Mission.

So, I am as pumped as ever! I want to thank Gloria Olschewski for this information. And I hope it might help others in the same predicament as I have been in.

I do however have one last question to bother you with. With the dividing missions, which mission will President Lund preside over? I am guessing it will be the Atlanta Georgia mission. Seeing as I received information letting me know he is my president. Or, will he reside over both missions? I spoke to an elder leaving in July, Elder Sam T. (Sorry about the last name) And he is serving in the North. He wasn't positive if his president was Lund, or someone else, but he was pretty sure. So, is Lund over both missions? Or will he simply reside over the Southern mission?

Sorry this is so lengthy, but I would just like to help the website be a little more informative if possible as well.

Thank you for any help you might lend!

Wrong Info? 13 Jun 2003
Okay, I have a question.

With my packet that I recieved with my mission call, there was a map of my mission. It included areas north of Atlanta, and way over to each side of the state. Even two counties in Alabama. However, I just recieved the letter from my mission today, and I got a little map of what I think is just the stakes. But all the stakes that it says I'll be serving in are South of Atlanta. Nothing is north. So, did they send me the wrong information for my mission? Am I really serving in Atlanta Georgia South? Can anyone help me?

From the looks of the names on the paper, it looks like it might be saying the bishops names or something. I honestly can't tell. If someone can shed some light on this, I would really appreciate it! Thanks so much!

Members in Lithia Springs 26 Mar 2003
I was reading the newspaper and noticed that one of the POWs in the war is a Young from Lithia Springs. It's been long enough that I don't remember any first names of the Youngs that are members of the Lithia Springs ward. Does anyone happen to remember them or know if they are related to the POW?

LDS QUOTE:
"Brothers and sisters, the missionaries need our faith and prayers. Pray fervently every day for their safety and protection, for this is one very important way we all can support them in accomplishing their essential assignment of proclaiming the gospel to all the world. I bear testimony that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We are engaged in his work. I testify that through the faith and prayers of all members of the Church, we will continue moving this great work forward to the final victory. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
- Elder M. Russell Ballard, Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
