Was companions with Elder Dawson, Chris Tueller (Landscaper in the Logan, UT area), Wade Foster, Craig Smith (Contractor/Engineer in Mendon, UT), Tyler Carr (Centerville, UT?), Jeremy Price (Engineer, living in AZ?), Chris Witte (Bountilful cop), Elder Jeff Brown from Ogden, Elder Shannon (works for Merk in NJ) & Elder Frank Brown, Elder Watson...and now, of course, Sister Nielsen.
I think the more years I put between my mission and the present, the more I appreciate the mission. The hard times kind of fade away, or at least you can look back and laugh at them now. Can't believe it's been as many years now since my mission as it was from birth to going on a mission. The best two years? Eh...Let's just say I don't regret it, would definitely do it again knowing what I know now, but would probably do things differently.
Been back to the mission several times to visit, mainly the Wähnelt Family in the Duisburg Ward . Was just there in the summer of 2009 with my family (picture above of my wife, the former Sis. Nielsen, and I by the front door), flying into Düsseldorf (THAT was weird). The ward is doing great. It's large, diverse and vibrant. Many of the members have passed on, a few have sadly dropped out. I guess they are down to one missionary companionship now, I believe there were five when I served there. The members are picking up the slack though.
I try to keep my language skills going by writing in German to mission friends, and listening to German radio on the internet. Hope we can return as a senior couple someday. |
