Baptismal Font Mayhem 26 Jan 2002
Santa Rosita, Zona 16 Saturday, April 28, 1990 It was a middle of the week baptism for the Hermanas Guilamo and Rencher. The baptism was an 83 year old lady--a big lady. My companion, Elder Aguilar, was going to baptize but when he saw her size, he thought it best that I do it. So, in the water I explained everthing and I said the prayer. She said she was ready, so I tried to immerse her, but she wouldn't go! She then broke away from me and said it was better to do it head first! Now I don't think it matters if they go under from the back or front, but I wasn't sure about having the baptismal grip so I chased her around the font. It really was a chase! She was trying to get away from me to dip herself and I was trying to get her to use the baptismal grip. And the funniest is Hermana Guilamo had her shoes off and was standing on the second step of the font, directing all of us on what to do. Finally the lady stopped splashing around. I think she was tired. I got the grip and with her kind of floating there, I pushed her under. It really wore me out. Quite an experience.
