1998 as far as I know I was one of the last to serve in that area.

For those who still remember, the new Temple in Xela will be built near the Licorera (hmm), there was an apple plantation across the road, so there's the place... The land has been bought and they're only waiting for the approval from SLC. It is a great blessing for all people there... Finally, the prophecy is fullfilling... I still remember when we used to teach members about what President Spencer W. Kimball said about a Temple in our beloved Xela... Surely the Lord keeps His promises!

President Hinckley also spoke of temple-building in other parts of the world, announcing plans to construct a new temple in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
"The temple in Guatemala City (dedicated in 1984) can't accommodate all those who wish to come. We'll probably be building further temples in Brazil and in other parts of the world. These will bless the people in a way no other structure on Earth can bless them."

Recently I was contacted by an ex-missionary from the Quetzaltenango Mission (or who claims to have served in that mission) asking for financial assistance in regards to his oldest son's education.
According to this ex-missionary, he was incapacitated from a car accident about a year and a half ago and life has been even harder financially for him and his family.
I was wondering if this ex-missionary has contacted anyone else who served in the Quetzaltenango Mission. I'm tying to find out if this is a legitimate situation/story. If it is, then I want to help.
You can reach me through the mission website if you have any information that will verify or corroborate this ex-missionary's claims and petition for financial assistance.

Recientemente se me contacto un ex-misionero de la mision Xela (pues dice que es ex-misionero), pidiendo ayuda monetaria educativa por su hijo mayor.

AIRFARE FROM SALT LAKE CITY TO GUATEMALA IS CURRENTLY 180.00 PLUS TAX.
AFTER TAX IT COMES TO 317.70 which is unbelievably cheap.

Now for those originating in Guatemala there is a fare on American for 168.00 plus tax.
After tax the rate is 301.16!!!! WOW IS ALL I CAN SAY.

I was curious if anyone had heard anything about areas in an around Quetzaltenango dealing with the mudslides. I read in the Prensa Libre that parts of San Marcos and San Pedro were literally cut off from Guate and they couldn't send in anyone to help from the capital. Some reports even mentioned Malacatan and Tapachula, Mexico as being severely effected by the flooding and mudslides. Does anyone still have contact with people down there? Have you heard anything?

As many of you know, recently Guatemala was hitted by a tropical depression.
Many people have lost all they have... Missionaries are safe. Members here have gattered to help with donations of food, clothes, blankets and anything that can be of use... Many have volunteered to classify the clothes and food, make packages and have them ready to be taken to these people.
The 10th or 11th, we are receiving a donation from the Church.
The thing that I ask for, is your prayers for our brothers and sisters. Specially because most of the areas that need more help are the areas from the mission.
Pray for them, for all of them. We made a special fast this weekend for them.
I know the Lord will answer our prayers made with faith.

Como muchos de ustedes saben, Guatemala fue golpeada recientemente por una depresion tropical.
los misioneros estan a salvo. Muchas personas han perdido todo lo que tenian. Los miembros se han unido para ayudar con comida, ropa, frazadas y cualquier cosa que pueda ser útil. Muchos han sido voluntarios para clasificar la ropa y la comida, hacer paquetes y tenerlos listos para mandarloa a estas personas.
El 10 u 11 estaremos recibiendo ayuda de la Iglesia.
Lo que yo les pido son sus oraciones por nuestros hermanos y hermanas. Especialmente porque la mayoria de las areas que necesitan mas ayuda son areas de la misión. Oren por ellos, por todos ellos. Nosotros hicimos un ayuno especial por ellos este fin de semana.
Yo sé que que el Señor responderá nuestras oraciones hechas con fe.
