I wish words could convey the feelings and experiences I had when I returned to Dublin in September 2005 for the “Coming Home to Ireland Reunion. Twenty-five years had passed since I’d last seen my friends in Ireland and I was touched to see how many of them had remained faithful. I was impressed by their strength and their testimonies.
Keep in mind that this was not a reunion in which I knew everyone. Far from it. There were elders who’d served 10 years before my time and 20 years after my time. There were members who’d been in the church since the late 1960s and others who’d only recently joined. But we all shared a wonderful and common bond. We were all closely tied to the country, the people, and the church.
I attended the reunion my first day there, meeting missionaries and members, sharing testimonies and tears. The second day I visited members who hadn’t made it to the reunion and had wonderful visits. The third day was an astounding Stake Conference. I then had eight days of travel plans. But in all honesty, I could have gone home after those first three days feeling absolutely satisfied. Just the opportunity to mingle with the saints once again was a fulfilling and overwhelming experience.
At the Dublin Stake Conference, I watched a children’s choir sing, “Heavenly Father are Your Really There.” What a touching thing it was to witness all these kids, some of whom were third generation members. As they sang, I realized I was witnessing the future of the church in Ireland.
Another wonderful sight at the conference was a choir that sang “Called to Serve Him.” This choir was made up of Irish-born men and women who had served missions from Ireland. They’d traveled the globe spreading the gospel and then returned to their homeland to assume leadership and other responsibilities in the church. And here they stood before us, more than 65 of them. They covered the stand in the Finglas Chapel and spilled down the stairs into the aisle. Of all of them, I knew only three. And yet, I felt a bond with every one of them.
I plan to return to Dublin in June 2007 for the next missionary reunion. I know the people there are looking forward to us arriving and I can’t wait to see them again. Long-time member President Bernard O’Farrell - who currently serves in the IDM mission presidency – recently visited the USA where he encouraged a group of returned missionaries to attend the reunion. In his words: “It will be the time of your life for you and the time of our lives for us.”
If ever you’ve thought about returning to Ireland, the reunion is the perfect excuse to go back…and you’ll have people anxiously awaiting you when you arrive.

I often sit back and ponder my life in the mission field. It comes up a lot in planning the reunion. And as I do, I am struck by one thing most. I feel I served an honorable mission and do not really have any regrets. But I now see there was a big gap in my ability to commit people to baptism. I was asking a lot from them. I was asking them to endure mocking and ridicule. I was asking them to face rejection from friends, family and associates. Still, I challenged them knowing their lives would soon be made difficult. At the point of challenging someone for baptism, I'd developed a great love for those I taught and I though my heart would break at the thought of what they were in for. As I look back, the greater love was defined by standing for them in the Lord and in supporting them through the transition of becoming a member of Christ’s church. As I look at those courageous people, I'm filled with deep admiration for those who chose to do what was right first, even if such choices let to great difficulty. It is from these difficult choices that our lives change, growth occurs and miracles happen.
As a reunion committee we are asking you returned missionaries and you members who have left the Emerald Isle to return to Ireland with us for this reunion. It is a lot to ask and it is not for everyone. I challenge you to ask yourself: “Is this for me? Should I go? Doe the Lord want me to go?" Ask these questions first and choose to go or not to go based on the answer you receive. If the answer is yes, plan on going. It may be as easy reaching under a mattress for some cash. For others it may mean some very serious planning and saving or sacrificing to make it happen. If you think you should go, then trust in the Lord and he will grant you a way if you do your part. It took me 22 years to go back to Ireland my first time. While I was there I realized that it was within my reach to have gone back any time if I had made the choice.
When we planned the first reunion, we felt strongly that a particular person should join us. This person thought the reunion was a great idea and desperately wanted to attend. However, money was scare. Raising a large family, it didn't appear that a return trip to Ireland anytime soon would be likely. In a casual conversation a friend in the stake heard about the reunion. He thought it was a great idea. A few weeks later he handed our friend a plane ticket and said, “We feel very strongly that you should go and we will not take no for an answer." I cannot tell you how many miracles we have witnessed as we worked on that reunion and the current one. Great things have and will happen. Many of those who attended the last reunion reported that it was one of the greatest experiences of their lives. We expect no less from this one as we expect much greater missionary and member attendance than before.
If you feel like you should go to this reunion, I encourage you to make a an inward commitment, not to say you’d like to go...not to say you're trying to go...but to say
"I AM GOING!"
With the Lord's help, you will find a way.

This message would be for Church members in Ireland that I knew when serving there (2000-2002), or missionaries I served around who may want to take a trip to Ireland also. I will be coming to Ireland the first week of December.
If any missionaries I knew want to go with me, you're more than welcome. I got a great deal on cheapoair.com for only $475 round-trip, taxes included. Just let me know if you're interested in a holiday and I'll give you the details.
And for the members I knew, I'd love to meet up with you all! Please let me know if you'll be around during the beginning of December.
Thanks.

I am a fairly recent convert to the church - 3 years ago missionaries found me whilst tracting, 2 years & 5 months ago I was baptised. The rest is history, suffice to say my life has changed beyond recognition and I am so so blessed. But reason I registered here is to post a message in the hope that I can trace a missionary who served in Belfast in the early 1970's. That would have been my 1st contact with the church, but he sowed a seed of faith and I really really want to somehow let him know that I am now a very active member of the church and travelled to England to go through the temple in June 2005 & again in April 2006. I do not know his name but if I tell this story he will remember me - so here goes -I was about 10 or 12 years old, I had been dared by my pals to knock on the door of the mission home "Redhill" at finaghy in south Belfast, as they told me if I said I wanted to be a mormon I would be given milk and cookies by the missionaries. So I did and one young man opened the door, brought me into a huge sitting room and he showed me a film about Joseph Smith and the gold plates, he gave me a form for parental consent to be signed before he could teach me again. I got the form signed by my guardian & returned to the mission home "Redhill" a few days later - but once I discovered there were no milk and cookies on offer I never went back. I am sure the missionary in question must remember it because it would have been most unusual for a child to call at the mission home to ask about the church in that way. I was then known as Alison Goldie, lived in Greystown Park and had long blonde hair. I would so love to meet that missionary again and say thank you - I know that if it is Heavenly Father's will then it will happen.

I sugest that we advertise the site a little better and direct all to meet all the members and missionaries from Ireland. Because we ARE the coolest!!!

I just wanted to let you all know how grateful i am to all of you Elders who have served in Ireland. I know it's a hard mission but worth it. My first disscussion was taught to me by Elders Guinn, Biorn and Ricks in 1990 and i was baptised March 17 off Sliver Strand in Galway bay.
I married Eleder Kim (who also served in Ireland) and we have our four beautiful children. We are now living in Salt Lake City but Ireland is still home and we contact and share the gosple with friends and family there over the internet. The internet has made it easier to share the book of mormon. I have a friend in Galway who is reading it from the church link lds.org.
My eldest daughter Margaret, who is graduating from high school on June 2 was like a little sister to many of you who served under president Martin. She was called a month ago to be Laurel class president. She has high standards for every young man that comes to the door to date her. Frist he has to have the guts to talk to her father and next he had better be preparing to serve a mission because she says a man who serves a mission will make a better friend and companion. She learned that from watching all of you and your dilligent work in Ireland. Her friends at church talk about their daddy's mission and she tells them that she was lucky enough to watch her daddy teach the gosple on the streets boards and even baptise a girl in Terranure branch.
Some of you may be suprised to hear that young hyperactive Connor was called and set apart last week as Decons quorum president. He is a very active young missionary recruting people to the church through the scouting programme. He reactivated and family by inviting their 12 year old son to church and to activities. That is also due to your example.
Thank you all for choosing to serve a mission and for working so hard to bring me into the gosple. You completed my life and your work still goes on through my children.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me with information on Dungarvon.
We had to change our travel plans to the availability of the B&B's. I now need to know the times of the Tralee Branch. It is listed at lds.org as being at 30 The Mall, Tralee, however, there are no times listed. We will be staying in Dingle the night of the 3rd so if anyone knows the times of the meetings for Sunday the 4th, please email me. Thank you, Sylvia

There is no longer a branch in Dungarvin. The members there now meet in Waterford for church. I served in Waterford for 4 1/2 months and love that branch! They are great. It's not too far from Dungarvin to Waterford, I've drivin it a few times. Hope you enjoy it!

I will be in the Dungarvon area on the 4th June and need to know if there is a Branch that meets there or would we have to go to Cork or Waterford?
I would appreciate any information on times and location if there is one.
Thank you soooo much,
Sylvia

On February 3rd -6th a small reunion was held in Winfield ,British Columbia,Canada. The occaision was the blessing of Joseph Mellor son of John and Karen Mellor. In attendance was the old Tallagh district from 1981: former Elders John Mellor, Wayne Gardner, Craig Knudsen and Darren Miller. Many old IDM stories were swapped and an unofficial update on who is where and doing what was told. The blessing was a spiritual ,blessed event and all who attended were greatly rewarded. I will try to post some photos of the event.
