Listening to the Spirit 30 Jan 2002
In my first area, Ballymena, my trainer and I were tracting an area he had tracted before. It was a cold night in Feb. and we had a dinner appointment in 45 minutes. We had been tracting all day long and we had skipped lunch. It was only my 3rd day in the field and I was tired, hungry, and cold. In fact, my feet were frozen and I was a bit tired of going from door to door with no success. Nevertheless, my trainer--being an absolute workhorse--was determined to keep working. About 10 minutes before our dinner appointment, we decided to start heading toward it. We started that direction, and then he stopped. He said we had to go back. I remember thinking, "Are you crazy? What are you thinking!!" I think I uttered something like, "Are you really sure?" The dinner appointment was something I had looked forward to for several hours now. We started back as he looked at the tracting log. He settled on a door that had been "X-ed" before and we knocked, were invited in, and to my amazement, we taught the most first spiritual discussion of my entire mission. Samantha Rainey was baptized just a few weeks later.....all because my comp listened to the Spirit and not his stomach!
