(This is a letter from Jared dated 16 September, 2009)
This week there has been a festival of the Madonna. They have been doing some different kinds of processions lately, and the streets have been packed with more people than I thought existed in this place.
My companion Anziano Mangifesta left, and he went up to Statte, a place near Taranto. President Toronto gave him permission to come back this weekend if he wants to see the baptism for Francesco Papandrea. Francesco is so ready, and it will be cool to see him as a new member. He is a really cool guy. He will be a great asset to the branch. He is already doing a lot of missionary work, and he tells everyone that if they want to learn of the truth that we have, they should come to the missionaries so that they can learn what he has learned. We are going to an Evangelist church to do the baptism. We will do the talks in our church building first, and then we will go over to their church building to do the baptism. I am glad that I was called to give the talk about baptism. Our Branch President. They are both like best friends, and they are equally intelligent, regarding the knowledge of the Bible, so they get along very well. It is very cool to see them interact. Another cool thing is that here in Reggio Calabria, this is the first baptism in 10 years! It is cool to be a part of it.
There are a few changes here. My last companion got transferred, but I got one that is still newer in the mission. He is now in his 3rd transfer. His name is Anziano Kinzie, and he is from Manti, Utah. We get along well, and we have a lot of the same interests.
I was called as a Zone Leader for the Catania Zone, and so was Anziano Teran. We get along really well. We have a lot of responsibility under us, so we are trying to be the best examples we can be.
