Dearest Missionaries,
We have some great news for all of you. As you know, on July 1st Togo and Benin were transfered back into the Ivory Coast Abidjan Mission from the Ghana Cape Coast Mission. At that time the missionary department started sending non-African missionaries to the Ivory Coast Mission specifically to those two countries. This morning Sister Norby received a phone call from the mother of one of those missionaries assigned to travel to either Togo or Benin. She said that non-African missionaries were now being called to the Ivory Coast as their country of assignment. I contacted the missionary travel department and verified that last month ONE elder landed in Abidjan to start his mission there! Hoorah for Israel!!
The travel department said that several more elders are scheduled to fly into Abidjan in the coming months. They will arrive with visas which will help in this new transition whereas before visas were not required for North Americans. If they come from North America, and perhaps other countries, they will attend the Provo MTC for language training.
Sister Norby and I want to thank each of you for the great work you did in that mission. Part of the reason they are letting missionaires back in is because of how you conducted yourself and the love those wonderful people had and continue to have for you. Africa continues to grow in our hearts and thoughts and will forever remain a part of us.
As some of you might know, a few former elders returned to Abidjan and Ghana a few months ago. They had a wonderful expereince and have told us that the members and country are doing well.
May the Lord continue to bless each of your in your endeavors of life. We continue to pray for you and think of you daily.
Our love and a BIG hug to all,
The Norby's
P.S. There are missionaries whose email address we do not have. Please forward this on to others.
