Meet President Cyril I. A. Figuerres

 

 

 

Cyril Iwamura Amorozo Figuerres

Personal Background: Born in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. His father was born and raised in the Philippine Islands. His mother was born in Kumamoto, Japan. He converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ after three years of investigating.

Church Experiences: Served in Church headquarters positions (Missionary Advisory Committee, Public Affairs host for VIP, etc.), leadership positions (mission president, bishopric twice, high councilor, Elders Quorum president, Young Men presidency, Sunday School presidency), teaching positions (gospel doctrine, High Priests group, Elders quorum, Teachers quorum, Primary), clerical positions (stake clerk, ward clerk), and as a missionary (Japan East Mission, 1969-1971; served in Fukushima, Akita, Hakodate, Sapporo, and dendo honbu).

Professional Work: Consulting (consult with the Brethren regarding the diverse challenges and opportunities of a fast growing Church in a rapidly changing world; examine problems, issues, implications, solutions, and strategies); research and evaluation (directed some 175 + studies for the various councils and committees of the Quorum of the Twelve, evaluating the effectiveness of Church programs and activities, leadership, training, policies and procedures, organizational structure, curricula, etc.); religious issues and phenomena (conversion process, religious and spiritual development, leadership, creating "communities of saints," developing a global church, fostering personal, group, and organizational changes); leadership (visioning, leadership development, leading, directing, managing); psychology (human motivation and behavior, personality, learning theory and instructional design, attitude change, group dynamics, organizational behavior, counseling); teaching, training, and conducting workshops and seminars.
