"The Fukuoka Japan Mission is, of course, excited about the pending open house and dedication of the 2nd temple in Japan. But that's not all. Okinawa is catching fire with the gospel."   Mission Mom Denise McArthur reports, "Member Missionary work is taking off! One little branch, Kadena, has had about 20 or less people coming to church. Through the reactivation efforts of the missionaries and members, 42 are coming and since last November, they have had 9 baptisms already so far. It is so exciting to see the Prophet's plan work! We just have to get everyone converted to it!"

The "permission teaching" concept being furthered by the North Asia Area Presidency is being emphasized in this mission and all the missions in Korea and Japan. Excellent detailed suggestions on how to soften up parents to listen to the gospel message while at the same time obtaining permission to teach minors is given. Working with LAMS is also emphasized. Fukuoka had 14 baptisms in December, 170 total baptisms in 1999, and 15 baptisms in January 2000. They realized 74% retention in 1999, probably due to 85% receiving all 6 AB lessons, priesthood being given to 66% of eligible age, 46% receiving a "meaningful responsibility", 80% being assigned home teachers, and 86% of females being assigned visiting teachers.
