Winn | Your Occupation: BYU Professor | Spouse: Clydie | Comments: I served in Kobe Mission from Feb 74 to Feb 76, and loved it. I've had the opportunity to return to Japan on several occasions since about 1991, when business ventures started to take me there. One of the saddest experiences I had was returning to the Kobe Mission Honbu in about 2002 on a Monday evening. Whereas the place was always rocking, day or night, with activity when I was on a mission there, on my return visit it was closed and dark and locked up. I was thrilled to hear that the mission was opened again a couple of years ago!
I also had the opportunity to serve as director of public relations for BYU-Hawaii from 2001 to the end of 2005 (tough job but someone had to do it). It was great to be back on the grounds of the old LTM and remember our great lizard ball games. Of course, the old field was long gone, supplanted by a large activities cetner that seats 4,500 hundred people. I loved that experience there with my dear wife of now 27 years (Clydie Wonnacott from Salt Lake City) and our two sons, the eldest of whom just returned from a mission to Brussels, Belgium and northern France. The other son is in high school. We left Hawaii at Christmas time, 2005, and I now am a full-time professor at BYU in the Department of Communications.
If any of my old companions or mission buddies are out there and reading this, aloha and natsukashii, ne! Please contact me! |
