Kobe MarkThe Basic "10"

Submitted by Grant Denton '85-'87

(Note: Grant writes: "During the Packer-Sterrett jidai we had The Basic "10," which were seriptures we were to memorize to be used on our missions and for the rest of our lives. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the "Paradigm" that introduced The Basic "10." Perhaps someone a little older than I has a copy of it and could offer it for this page. Note 2: Todd W Furniss (tjfurn@juno.com) reports that the Basic 10 began as the Basic 15, and were later shortened to the Basic 10.)

Kobe Mark1. Ether - Chapter 12: 6, 27

  1. And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.
  2. And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

Kobe Mark2. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 1: 23-24

  1. That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple unto the ends of the world, and before kings and rulers.
  2. Behold, I am God and have spoken it; these commandments are of me, and were given unto my servants in their weakness, after the manner of their language, that they might come to understanding.

Kobe Mark3. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 4

  1. Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.
  2. Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.
  3. Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work;
  4. For behold the field is white already to harvest; and lo, he that thrusteth in his sickle with his might, the same layeth up in store that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation to his soul;
  5. And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.
  6. Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility, diligence.
  7. Ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Amen.

Kobe Mark4. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 18: 15-16

  1. And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my father!
  2. And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me!

Kobe Mark5. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 50: 13-14, 21-22

  1. Wherefore, I the Lord ask you this question--unto what were ye ordained?
  2. To preach my gospel by the Spirit, even the Comforter which was sent forth to teach the truth.
  3. Therefore, why is it that ye cannot understand and know, that he that receiveth the word by the Spirit of truth receiveth it as it is preached by the Spirit of truth?
  4. Wherefore, he that preacheth and he that receiveth, understand one another, and both are edified and rejoice together.

Kobe Mark6. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 60: 2, 4

  1. But with some I am not well pleased, for they will not open their mouths, but they hide the talent which I have given unto them, because of the fear of man. Wo unto such, for mine anger is kindled against them.

  2. For I, the Lord, rule in the heavens above, and among the armies of the earth; and in the day when I shall make up my jewels, all men shall know what it is that bespeaketh the power of God.

Kobe Mark7. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 88: 67-68

  1. And if your eye be single to my glory, your whole bodies shall be filled with light, and there shall be no darkness in you; and that body which is filled with light comprehendeth all things.
  2. Therefore, sanctify yourselves that your minds become single to God, and the days will come that you shall see him; for he will unveil his face unto you, and it shall be in his own time, and in his own way, and according to his own will.

Kobe Mark8. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 88: 123-126

  1. See that ye love one another; cease to be covetous; learn to impart one to another as the gospel requires.
  2. Cease to be idle; cease to find fault one with another; cease to sleep longer than is needful; retire to thy bed early, that ye may not be weary; arise early, that your bodies and your minds may be invigorated.
  3. And above all things, clothe yourselves with the bond of charity, as with a mantle, which is the bond of perfectness and peace.
  4. Pray always, that ye may not faint, until I come. Behold, and lo, I will come quickly, and receive you unto myself. Amen.

Kobe Mark9. Doctrine and Covenants - Section 121: 45-46

  1. Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distill upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.
  2. The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.

Kobe Mark10.   Joseph Smith’s Admonition

Go in all meekness and sobriety, preach Jesus Christ and him crucified, not to contend with others on account of their faith or system of religion, but pursue a steady course.
