Prayer+Faith=Piano 04 Feb 2004
I hope I'm not over-doing it on the story thing. But here's a short memory that is faith-promoting.

While in Asahigawa in the Winter of 1984, a number of pretty musically talented missionaries ended up in the same area. After a few jam sessions on p-days, we decided to form a band and ended up putting on a few concerts that several hundred people showed up to. We were called "Forever". The guys in the band were: Namahira, Smith, McAllister, Mansell, (one more name I can't remember -sorry!), and myself. Things went pretty well - we got to play on the radio and the whole bit. Pretty mellow stuff with the odd upbeat number (like a rockin' version of Baby Elephant Walk in sunglasses...)

Anyway. As things got more serious, we realized we really needed an electric piano. We'd been sticking a microphone inside a regular piano at the church which just wasn't cutting it.

My companion at that time was Mansell Choro. He's a great guy. One p-day morning in the middle of the band era, he said "well, I've prayed about it and today we are going to get an electric piano". I asked him if he'd been saving his ju-ens or something, but then asked him how he honestly thought we were going to find one. "I have no idea", he replied, "but let's go down to the music store to have a look at some".

At the music store, we were longingly looking at a room full of electic pianos, were trying a few, and basically just hanging out waiting for a miracle to happen. And then it did...

One of the members in the area, Masuda kyodai, came up behind us and said "hey -what are you guys doing here?". "Just checking out the pianos" we said. "We need one for our band".

"Well", says Masuda Kyodai, "my wife teaches piano and she sent me down here to pick up a new electric piano for her. But I have no idea which one is good. Tell you what - why don't you guys pick out the model that you want, I'll buy it, and you can take it home. When you're done with it, I'll give it to my wife."

I was dazed as we carted a brand new electric piano back to our apartment later that day - just like Mansell said we would. I'll never forget the faith that he showed that day, and how the Lord came through for us. It really was a miracle. (I asked Mansell if he'd pray for a Silver Flare Trumpet on our next p-day). :-)
