10 Nov 2013
There is a wonderful opportunity to serve in the Japan Sendai Mission. The Missionary Department has increased the mission complement for senior couples.

Virtually every branch and ward has an opening in which you can serve.

Please contact your bishop and stake president right away.

Indicate in the comments section of your missionary application that you wish to serve in Sendai.

Then notify President Rasmussen (rasa128714@msn.com), and he will specifically request that you be called to serve in the Sendai Mission.

“…And this is the blessing which hath been bestowed upon us, that we have been made instruments in the hands of God to bring about this great work.” Alma 26 3

Webmaster Note:
President Gary Rasmussen, whose three-year term as Sendai Mission president ends next June, asked me to post the above message. If you have questions about the kind of senior couples service he has in mind in the various mission branches, don't hesitate to contact him directly.

Separately, here's an email I received from Richard Jacobsen Choro about his senior couple service:

Todd, I just wanted to let you know how excited I was to see the request
for more senior couples. My wife and I are currently serving a senior
couple mission in St Petersburg Russia and we love being here. Sister
Jacobsen is the office secretary and I am the mission financial secretary.
We love serving with all these young and faithful missionaries. They are
awesome missionaries, dedicated to the Lord and willing to share the
restored gospel with all of Heavenly Father's children. I loved my first
mission in Sendai (1974-76) but serving with my eternal companion is a
special blessing. We have noticed that our children and grandchildren have
also been blessed as we serve. Time away from our family is but a small
personal sacrifice when I consider all that Heavenly Father has blessed us
with. Our current mission ends in March and we have already talked about
serving a second mission (and maybe more). If I could say one thing to
those who are able to serve, it would be "Do it and Do it now!"
Respectfully, Elder Jacobsen
