Cory Brighton

Cory James Brighton, 47, of Idaho Falls, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2011, after living a life full of faith, hope, love, courage and determination.

Cory was born Nov. 25, 1963, in Murray, Utah, to Don and Jeanine Brighton. He grew up in Utah and Idaho Falls. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School in l982. He attended Ricks College and then graduated from Utah State University. He served a full-time, proselyting mission to Sendai, Japan, from 1983 to 1984.

He made his home in Idaho Falls and worked various jobs. His favorite was working for the city of Idaho Falls as the "Master Gardener" at the Idaho Falls zoo.

Cory was passionate about music. He could name any song and any group. He loved the out-of-doors and had climbed all three Tetons, as well as Mount Borah. He wrote several books, including memories of times with his dad. He had a Web page that included a thought for each day. He was an Eagle Scout and he loved spending time with his siblings and family. He loved going on fishing and hunting trips with his dad, brothers, uncle and cousins.

He had two favorite quotes that he came up with: "There's no sadder sight on this great sphere than the Tetons in the rearview mirror," and, "The best way to show genuine love is to share one's huckleberries with a friend." Survivors include his mother, Jeanine; sisters, Rebecca (John) Schmidt of Rigby, Idaho, and Dona (Mike) Keeton of Idaho Falls; brothers, Cliff (Lynda) Brighton and Cleve (Erika) Brighton, both of Idaho Falls; 16 nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and nephews; and all those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Hintze Brighton.

His family would like to thank all those "angels" who were so tender and caring of his needs.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Cache Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia, Idaho. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 21, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls.
