Stories: Great and Spacious Building

Great and Spacious Building 25 Jan 2009
In May 1996, all Sendai missionaries gathered at the Kamisugi Meetinghouse and boarded two buses to travel to Tokyo to hear an evening fireside by President Hinckley at the NK Hall, near Tokyo Disneyland. President Hinckley was on his way to Hong Kong for the temple dedication there. (Church News Story here.)

After the fireside, before the late night bus ride back to Sendai, the driver drove us by some Tokyo sites, including the temple and Tokyo tower, and thus drove through Roppongi. At one intersection, the bus was right next to a huge bar/pub of foreigners, many of whom were American. Several bar-goers hung out of the windows/balcony of the bar, and laughed and pointed at us. One woman shouted "What are you guys, Mormons?" Just then, I thought about Lehi's dream and the great and spacious building. I felt proud knowing we were all recognized as Mormons just because of how we were dressed.
