The hand of the Lord 18 Sep 2002
Taken from my mission letters dated March 28th, 1983 while serving in Kita Senju.

It's a glorious and thrilling moment to see an investigator feel the spirit of the Lord working on them and then as a result they change their lives in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ!

One of my companions previous investigators that was baptized a while ago has been having a lot of difficulty in obeying the word of wisdom. He drinks quite a lot and smokes too. We've talked to him a lot, but satan is till holding him back! He really desires to be good and to follow Christ. His problem is that he has no one in Church to turn to for help. He has no friends and is divorced. He has a son that lives with him and his son is not a member so he smokes and drinks too. All of the pressures that he has been feeling have broken him down and he turns to alcohol to get away from this.

He went to the Bishop last Sunday as a result of our talking to him and his own desire to repent and become clean and pure so as to once again feel the influence of the Holy Ghost.

The other night, my companion and I prayerfully prepared a special lesson on the Holy Ghost for him and then went to see him. He had not been drinking or smoking. We really desired for him to have a special witness that night and feel the Holy Ghost work on him again!

We opened with prayer and then began to teach the principles of the Holy Ghost and its function. We spoke with the power of the priesthood. If only I could feel that same feeling continuously it would be marvelous indeed! The words spoken entered into his heart with a power and conviction that I have never experienced before.

He was very humbled and expressed a desire to come back into the fold of our Father in Heaven. So once again we explained the steps to repentance and he agreed to the importance of it as outlined in the scriptures. My companion and I really felt good as we taught and then we finished the lesson and asked him if he would offer a prayer to the Lord with a sincere heart and faith to ask for forgiveness and the spirit to touch his soul.

I was so moved to hear him pray and ask our Father in Heaven as his child for forgiveness and to help him overcome satan's grip. At that very moment, a wonderful burning feeling swept through him and us! He quietly wept as did we for this kind man who had the courage to ask and then as he received an answer to his prayer, he thanked the Lord throug his tears. He closed his prayer and was quite overcome by the experience. We know that he will pull through his difficult time in his life if he will but rely on the arm of the Lord!

My companion and I have truly been blessed as we have been able to teach many people and bless homes and feel the spirit of the Lord working through us to accomplish his grand design! It truly is a joy to serve our master and rejoice in his glorious gospel!
