I was part of the Hawaii Mission that opened Pohnpei.
Companions were Porter, Mortensen, Tate, Faumui, Winter, Wong, & Nauahi. We served under President Cannon, and President Butler.
We started the Kolonia and Mand Branches. I served as Branch Pres. before Johnny Bridge in Mand. I left Pohnpei 3 days after Wallace Heap arrived and before Elder Groberg first visited.
We lived with the Ohry Family in Mand and built our own sleeping house. No road around the island then, so lots of hiking and boat rides from Madolenihmw and Kolonia. We met in the schools for Church. When we arrived there was 1 member (Ohren Ohry). When I left after 1 year, there were more than 100 members in 2 strong branches. I love the people of Pohnpei! |
