For all of you who have not heard from me in 20+ years...it sure doesn't seem that long...hard to believe I'm 40. I now live in Pocatello, ID. My wife and I have 8 children, ranging in age from 19 - 5. We just moved to current home and so do not currently have an church callings. I have been SS Pres. SS Teacher, Primary Teacher, Ward Clerk, Ward Mission Leader, Elder's Quorum Instructor, and Librarian...not in correct order.
July brought a new opportunity for me and my family, when I was diagnosed with Spinal Bulbar Muscular Atrophy. In short, SBMA is affects 1 in 44,000 men and symptons show up between 35 - 50. Basically, the androgen receptors in my nerve endings are folded (mutated) and the testerone that usually binds to them is toxic instead. So, nerve impulses do not reach my muscles and the muscles atrophy.
Believe it or not, while I do not look forward to the challenges ahead, I am thankful to the Lord for this blessing. I am learning a lot about my body and about muscles that I never would have otherwise. And, I find that I am thankful for the 39 years that I had a wonderful, fully functioning body. Besides, my 9 year old son gets a kick out of beating dad at arm wrestling.
Hope all of my old friends and companions are doing well.
