To our dear Northern Far East Missionary friends:
It has now been over 54 years since Frances and I were called to serve in the Northern Far East Mission and it has now been 47 years since we were released from our labors in the Northern Far East Mission. That means it has now been over 54 years since we began our association with the oldest of our missionaries and it has now been over 47 years since our association as missionaries with the youngest of our missionaries came to an end. That means that our friendship with you is not only 54 years and 47 years old respectively but it also means that all of us are 54 years and 47 years older now than we were! Frances is now in her 87th year and I will shortly be beginning my 86th year. We do not look the same now as we did then, but you probably do not look the same now as you did then either!
As we look back over our lives we recognize what a great privilege it was to serve with you in building up the kingdom of God in Japan, Korea, and Okinawa. Those experiences working together with you in building up the kingdom of God in Japan, Korea, and Okinawa, forged a bond of friendship and love which even after all these years we still feel keenly. It is a bond of everlasting friendship and love which will never die. Similarly, our experiences working together with you and with the Japanese, Korean, and Okinawan members of the church in building up the kingdom of God in Japan, Korea, and Okinawa, have forged a bond of everlasting friendship and love which bind all of our hearts together for ever and ever. What a wonderful blessing!
The greatest blessings in all of our lives have come to us through the great plan of salvation provided by our Father in Heaven for all of His children and through the atonement of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, brothers and sisters, families and friends forever and ever! The most beautiful part of all these blessings is that they are eternal an will continue forever and ever.
At our age (and at yours) it will not be long until we have all passed to the other side. Even now we are feeling the effects of old age and illness. Frances and I both have serious problems with our hearts, with general circulation problems and with arthritis. I recently spent 23 days in the hospital and am now confined mostly to my bed each day under the tender care of my angel wife. Frances is up and around but is in great pain in her knees. No doubt many, if not all of you, are experiencing similar ailments. As we pass through these last years of old age and illness we ask for you to pray for us and we pledge to pray for each of you.
Circumstances may prevent us from seeing you again in this life and if that turns out to be the case, then we look forward to continuing our association in love and friendship forever and ever on the other side.
Sent with our Aloha and prayers to each of you from Paul and Frances Andrus. |
