We are back in Korea for our 5th mission, 4th to Korea. Attached and below is a quick summary: OUR KOREAN ENCOUNTERS By Ronald K. Nielsen, 11 Sept. 2009My wife Ruby and I are about to embark on our fourth mission to Korea. Our association with Korea and the Korean people have all been in connection with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, first as missionary to the Northern Far East and Korean Missions (1962-64), then as President of the Korea Seoul West Mission (1992-95) and then President of the Seoul Korea Temple (2000-03). Therefore we have had great spiritual experiences and hardly any negative encounters in our service there. Each of these assignments were progressively more enjoyable. The country has modernized miraculously overnight. They have done in a few decades what the West took centuries to do. These modern conveniences were especially helpful when returning to Korea with my wife. However, the most enjoyable part of serving in Korea was the association with the beautiful Korea Saints. Their dedication and sacrifice has always been motivational to us.Our family has grown to have several Korean connections. Ten years after my first mission to Korea, my younger brother Rocky Nielsen served in the Korean Mission. Our son Micah served in the Korea Taejon Mission, 1993-95. Our daughter Rhonda married a returned missionary from the Korea Seoul Mission, Troy Foster. Two missionary sisters who served with us in the Korea Seoul West Mission married two of our sons. Heather Burnham married Bryce and Christina Chang married Micah. And of course my wife, Ruby, has served two missions in Korea as my companion. That makes seven people of our immediate family that served missions in Korea totaling 24 years of missionary service. Our upcoming call to the Seoul Korea Mission, 2009-11, will boost the total to 28 years of service in Korea. This missionary activity produced other interesting connections. General Authority Emeritus, Han, InSang and I served together as companions for a short while in 1964. Some thirty years later our sons Micah and YongHui served as companions in the Korea Taejon Mission. Our daughter-in-law Christina is the daughter of Chang, YangBo of Tahiti, who served as a missionary under President Spencer Palmer. Two of our missionaries who served with us in the Korea Seoul West Mission were children of those we baptized thirty years earlier in Taegu. In the future I expect more connections will intertwine as our family grows and as the Church continues to progress in Korea. We are so grateful for the opportunity to be a small part of God’s working in this part of the world. Missions served in Korea by members of the Ronald K. Nielsen Family:Self Ronald K.
