Extract from President Langeland's Obituary:
John Langeland died peacefully on July 17, 2010 after a short battle with cancer. He was born on December 19, 1918 in Bergen, Norway to Marie Alver Langeland and Peder Johannesen Langeland. He married his sweetheart and eternal companion, Edna Fluge, in Bergen, Norway on April 9, 1943. John joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 3, 1940. He served a mission in his homeland during World War II and served faithfully in every calling that came to him, including: Bishop, Stake President, Mission President in Norway, Regional Representative, and Temple President in Sweden.
John and Edna were deeply devoted to each other and to their family. John felt his greatest blessings were their six children, 33 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He taught them by precept and example the Christ-like qualities of obedience, sacrifice, service and love. Edna preceded John in death on May 22, 2000 after 57 years of marriage. John married Louise Lovett Jenkins on July 25, 2003. She and her family were a great blessing to John. Louise passed away on September 28, 2008. John is survived by sons, Fritjof (Shirley) and S. Emil (Diane); daughters, Anne Marie (Mark) Pace, Janet (John) Rees, and June (Kevin) Pearson; 33 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Per Fluge Langeland, and his brother, Hans Georg Langeland.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 12 noon at the Ensign 2nd Ward, 135 No. "A" Street. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, and at the ward on Monday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
