Sister Schroader and I just returned from the Adams Branch 20th anniversary commemoration. Those who served there will be happy to know that the branch is doing well. Sister Knott is still the fireball she has always been. She has slowed down at bit at 84 years of age-she only has 3 callings. She is relief society secretary, prints the weekly program, and is the Gospel Doctrine teacher. So those of us who think we are overworked or too busy just think of this special lady. "Shug" is doing pretty good and said to say hello to everyone who served there. It was a real treat for us to return to our favorite area and get reaquainted with all the good people of Adams Branch.

Many of you who served in Portsmouth might know this already, but for those of you who don't I have wonderful news! I got an e-mail from Sister Duplain yesterday telling me about the new chapel. She says,
"The branch is doing well but lots of changes. The old building is gone and the beautiful new chapel is right behind where the old one stood. Everyone thinks that the chapel reminds them of the temple (it's mostly white). We moved into it in April but they just dedicated it last month."
Isn't that awesome!? I have so many memories of the old chapel, but I can't wait to see the new one. I'm sure that many of you who served in Portsmouth are equally curious about seeing it too. She might send me some pictures and I'll see if I can post them. Take care!

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Elder Lee Brown. Elder Lee and Sister Judy Brown served in the OCM office, beginning their service with President and Sister Wilson and were serving when we arrived. Their service preceded Elder and Sister Elledge. Those of you who served with them will remember Elder Brown as our "Car Czar." He took great care of the cars plus had a great sense of humor. He always testified strongly of the Gospel and usually ended his testimony at Zone Conferences with the admonition "The Gospel is true, check your oil." Sister Brown was in charge of all the mail, missionary supplies and mission newsletter. They also served in LP 2 Ward and were active proselyters in that ward area. They realized success with conversions and activations in addition to their office assignments. All who served with them will remember their sweet love of missionaries and devotion to the work.
Elder Brown passed away Sunday, April 23 as a result of injuries suffered in a horse related accident last week. We will miss him and extend our condolences to Sister Brown and her wonderful family.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 28 at 11:00 am at the Chapel located at 500 North 700 East, Pleasant Grove, Utah. The family will receive visitors Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Olpin Family Mortuary which is located at 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and again Friday at the Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 am preceding the funeral services. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove.
Our Love, President and Sister Gilliland

Paul Gordon Ostler 1990 ~ 2005 Paul Gordon Ostler was born February 3, 1990 to Brent and Teresa Ostler. He returned to his Heavenly Father August 2, 2005 after being fatally struck by lightening while attending a Boy Scout camp. Paul is the light of his family and will be greatly missed. Paul was an avid reader and an accomplished athlete. He excelled in all avenues of his life, and found great joy in challenging himself both physically and mentally. Paul exhibited a calm confidence and independence well beyond his years, and his quick wit and charming personality touched the lives of many and provided him with both the courage and the ability to stand up to the inevitable teasing that accompanied his status as the youngest of four boys. Paul is an Eagle Scout and was to attend East High School this fall as a sophomore. Paul has left us much too early and we grieve for our loss. Paul leaves behind a very large family including his parents, brothers: Jeff and his wife Johanna, Peter, and Greg, maternal and paternal grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, his scouting family, a strong ward family, and a host of close friends. The emptiness his loss brings to the hearts of all who love him may be filled with the knowledge that Paul has been called home to continue a greater work for which we know he is well prepared. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. at the Wasatch Ward Chapel located at 1750 S. 1500 E. Friends and family may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary at 3401 Highland Drive from 6:00-8:00 on Friday and at the ward on Saturday 10:30 to 11:30. Interment will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 Highland Drive. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paul Gordon Ostler Literacy Fund at America First Credit Union. Paul's life goes on through the gift of tissue donation.
Published in the Salt Lake Tribune from 8/5/2005 - 8/6/2005.
