Surely a Miracle 03 Mar 2005
When I was serving in Lebanon MO, my companion at the time, Elder John and I were busy working with a Family that was making slow progress with the gospel but still learning. There was one night in particular that has made an everlasting impression on my spirit. The mother of this family had been suffering from a thyroid condition that has plagued her family for generations. Her grandmother had died from this disease and now she was suffering real bad. The whole family was worried about what they could do. What if she died? was their concern. Well, Elder John and I went with an exchange out to the families house just to see how we could help. Upon being received into their home, we found that the mother was to ill to do anything other than sit in bed. We managed to share some comforting thoughts with the father and children but than the strongest impression entered my mind. It must have had a similar impact on Elder John because we both brought it to the father's attention that we could give the mother a blessing. We followed him down to the bedroom where the mother laid and explained to her about a priesthood blessing. She very weakly agreed to receive a blessing. So Elder John annointed her head with oil, and then Bro Smith, Elder John and I gave her a blessing. In this blessing the words came to me so that I told her she would be healed of this infirmity and be made whole. I did not realize what I had said at the time but Elder John pointed it out to me later. The mother's faith that she would be healed was very strong. By the next day which was preperation day, Elder John and I were over at their house fishing in the pond and there was the mother and her kids fishing with us. She said that she had not felt so well in a long time. I talked to the father later and he said that the doctors had found the disease to be non existant. They could not believe it because there is no cure for the illness. What a miracle that was. I don't know if they ever joined the church since that time but I do know that they know God loves them, and was working through my companion and I to bless their lives.
