| Hey Rob, i dont know if you remember me, nut you left many months before me. You are an awesome guy. Every missionary admired you and if we were all right there with you right now our feelings wouldnt change. Imagine how the people of Panama would feel if you, after pleading with them to enter the waters of baptism and go to church every Sunday, found out you didnt have anything to do with it? You are a Son of God and he loves you. He promises you everything if you are faithful to him and listen to him. i wish i could be there to say more, but i know that your salvation is important and write this note because it matters to me that you feel of his love and return to the fold. | I have just been called to serve in the Panama Mission and only have a few weeks to prepare before I leave for the MTC. I would love to communicate with anyone, particularly a recent returned sister, who can advise me on what I need to get ready to leave. There is very little in the way of summer clothing here in the northwest this time of year. Are sandals really forbidden? What exactly does a Welfare Service missionary do? As my call involves both teaching the gosple and WS. I have lots of questions and am very excited to serve the Lord in the Panama! |

I don't know if this will help, but I've got a lot of photos that give a good feeling of what Panama is about. You can check them out at http://www.avidcreative.com/jacom/panama I would recommend looking at the favorites page in particular. Let me know if you would like to use any of them for your cultural night. Best wishes.

Hola to all of you..
I am the YW president for the Carson ward in California. Our stake is holding a Cultural Arts Festival in 2 weeks on Oct. 27th. Each ward is to represent a country & display pictures, posters, have food for tasting & perform 3-4 min. of music, dancing representing that country.
I need help from anyone living in California. My husband, Wain Taaga, served in Panama 1997-1999 (if I remember). He has a few posters & souvenirs. Is there anyone that can donate anything they've brought back from the mission for our display???? Please respond ASAP via e-mail or call me @ 562-331-1889.
Muchas Gracias........ |

I served a mission in Chile 35 years ago, where the Lord blessed me with a love for la gente latina y la lengua de espanol. I have longed to return to Latin America, but -- aside from an hour on the Mexican border a few years ago -- my first opportunity came 2 weeks ago, when 25 of us from the US Army Reserves joined hands with 50 Panamanian professionals and volunteers to bring much needed medical care to some of the most isolated parts of the province of Cocle in this lush tropical country.
In ten days we provided definitive medical care to over 9000 patients. Families walked four to five hours each way for the opportunity to be cured of parasites, receive dental care, and be treated for a host of other ailments. Several of our patients were over 90 years old. One old man had not only left his house at 3 a.m. to walk the dirt roads to our clinic (held in the local school house), but pushed his crippled wife the entire distance in a rusty wheelchair donated years earlier. And then pushed her home afterward – both with new glasses.
Throughout our travels I inquired of the local police and volunteers if they knew of "Los Mormones". "Si" they would all say, "Estan en todas partes."
After explaining the visit of Christ to the ancient Americas, I asked one of our drivers if he would like a copy of the book written by the people He visited. He enthusiastically accepted a Spanish copy of the Book of Mormon that I had brought with me, and had been praying for guidance on placing it. The day before we left the country, another LDS officer and I placed an English Book of Mormon with a fellow medical officer, who expressed fascination with its message and promised to read it.
In such a short time I have fallen deeply in love with the Panamenian people, and plan to bring my family back to Panama next year for vacation. My ultimate desire is to retire there with my wife, in the rural provinces, and build up the Kingdom as the Lord permits us. |
