Brookville Guns 07 Feb 2009
I served for an entire winter in Brookville. My companion was Elder Lunt from Mesa, AZ. It was a very productive time on my mission, and Elder Lunt and I worked extremely hard for months. - I tip my hat to him, Elder Lunt was a great missionary and companion. The weather was mostly horrid, with snow, wind, and freezing temperatures almost every day. I remember to keep our strength up, we would even eat dinner during our breakfast time - have full meals in the morning as it helped us stay strong. We basically tracted the entire town, and then started on the country roads in and around Jefferson County. While out there, we had two guns pulled on us. The first one was a real jerk who came out of his garage at us with a shotgun and shoo'd us away with it. After the adreneline went down, I actaully thought it was funny. Elder Lunt did not, and stayed pretty upset about it for a couple of days. This set up gun #2... It happened a few weeks later after I got our car stuck in a snowbank at dusk, and we walked across a field to an isolated farmhouse for help. The lady inside thought we were bad guys and called her neighbor, who drove over in his pickup and met us in the drive with a pistol. Well, I immediately put my hands out, stepped back and sat down on the stoop, which I thought Elder Lunt would do as well. But it was freezing cold and miserable, and Elder Lunt still had that first gun experience on his mind... He started stepping toward the man, angry. I can't recall exactly what he said, but it was something like "you have got to be kidding me!!" I jumped up and grabbed him, and thankfully he stopped. Whew! After everyone calmed down, we all had a good laugh. It turned out the woman was home alone in the farmhouse and had small children inside. She got scared and called her neighbor. After we all talked, they were quite nice and even helped us get a hold of the highway patrol who got our car out of the snowbank. I'll never forget though Elder Lunt stepping toward that gun, muttering under his breath about how ridiculous the situation was! He just wasn't going to take it anymore! :)
