Hello my name is Alan Stoddard from Salt Lake City.
I'm looking for information about Muslim Terrorists from the Philippines, especially accounts that involve missionaries and the terrorists.
If you have any personal stories or know of any such stories, please e-mail me. Also if you know someone with a story please forward this message.
My purpose in finding this information is research for a movie that is currently being produced by Elevation Entertainment called Trial by Faith, in which two missionaries are taken hostage by terrorists in the southern Philippines.
Thanks for your help!

I served in the Baguio Mission from 1981 to 1983 and my first area was Olongapo and my last two areas were Manoag and Dagupan. I just wondered if anyone was still there that remembers me. I loved the people and still you the lessons I learned there to guide me today as I teach my children. When I was in Ologapo there were two branches and the US Navy at Subic Bay.

The people are the nicest in the world!(I a not exaggerating). The bugs are there, but bearable, especially for couple missionaries. Couples are treated very well in our mission. Your housing situation will be well better than all of the Elders/Sisters in the mission. YOu definatley will have some unique (3rd world) experiences, but it will be great. I envy you. HAve a great time and serve well.

We just received our mission call yesterday from the First Presidency to the Philippines Olongapo Mission - and, needless to say, are both aprehensive and nervous. We could use a bit of confidence building - although, 3 of our grandsons have served in the Philipines. None in the Olongapo mission, though. We would like some information on how to deal with the heat, humidity, bugs, food, etc. (This didn't seem to be of any consequence to our young grandsons -but, we're senior citizens!) Any comments would be welcomed. Thanks, so much.

While I'm excited someone has a fund out there for families not able to afford school ( I saw plenty cases of this myself), let us not forget the inspired Perpetual Education Fund that was instigated by President Hinkley. This fund helps people break the poverty barrier as well as learn responsibility in paying it back. Just a reminder... (just write it in on Other on the F.O. slip)....

Check out this website! www.live2learn.net. It is a new foundation that funds Filipino children through elementary school. You can help it grow! It currently only operates in the Naga mission but with your help it can help the children in your Mission too.

i have had the chance to work with some missionaries in olongapo mission. we proselyted in basista and it sure was a spiritual experience for me. sharing the gospel to the humble people in basista has increased my testimony on the gospel of jesus Christ and how the Lord loves and blesses the humble seekers of the truth.

Hi there, my husband is a new employee at FedEx and we are considering bidding to come to the Philippines. Most of what we hear on the news is terrible--kidnappings, murders, bombings and general chaos caused by bandit groups such as Abu Sayyaf. We have two small children, and are wondering what your opinions are about living and working in the Philippines? Do all the missionaries feel safe when they travel? Must they take serious precautions? Do they feel vulnerable here?
Since Sept. 11, we are all a little skittish, and would love to have some reassurance (if possible!) from Americans who are already over there.
Thank you very much for any help you could offer!
Sincerely,
Kim Smith |

I served in San Narciso, San Antonio and San Felipe (all one area with 2 missionaries) in 1972. The missionaries lived on the second floor of a rented home and church services were held on the first floor. Average attendance on Sundays, including the American members from San Miguel Naval Station, was about 20. It seems to have grown some since then. We did have good success while I was there. Hopefully, we planted some seeds. If someone has a chance to email me and let me know how things are going in San Narciso, San Antonio and San Felipe, I would be very interested.

Olongapo was my second area when I was serving my mission (under Philippines Bagiuo Mission) in 1986. After which I was assigned to open Masiloc, Zambales. My companion and I were able to baptized 30 people in 3 months and was able to organized a branch. I wish to know how is the branch doing. Do they have a chapel now?
