Kumusta sa lahat! I haven't visited this site for a long time. I sure do miss the Philippines, and hope that one day I can return to visit. Things are going great for me. My wife and I have three kids. Jacob, Kate, and Landon.

I am graduating in May as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Missionary Work! 26 Sep 2006
Hello to all of you(“,) missss yooouuu all..!!!

I visit PSPM website almost everyday, and be able to read messages from PSPM Missionaries. This website is soooo cool. Through this, we can connect to our former Companions, Batchmates, and other Missionaries who are dear and close to our hearts. Even our former parents, like President & Sister Johnson and President & Sister Osmond. You know what? Every time I surf this website, my sweet memories in the mission field with all of you guys keeps coming back into my mind and will always be treasured in my heart! How I wish to experience once again the Spirit of Missionary work through Full-Time Service! Oh, how I loved to be a Full-Time Missionary!!!

Missionary work is the greatest work upon the whole earth! Through this, we can be able to find our lost Brothers and Sisters and invite them to come unto the fold of God! Me and you are all product of diligent missionary service! I always count our Branch in terms of Missionary Work! Our Male and Female Single Adults in our Branch are faithfully and diligently serving our Savior through Full-Time Mission! I am proud to share how Missionary Effort works in our Branch – BAUANG BRANCH 1, BAUANG DISTRICT!

Let us try to look this year, 2006. From January to July, there were 5 faithful Full-Time Missionaries who returned home from their mission with honor: They were:
1. Sister DUMO, Diwata Delilah – SAN PABLO MISSION (my cousin)
2. Elder MEJIA, Randy – NAGA MISSON (my first cousin)
3. Sister BELMONTE, Jennifer – DAVAO MISSION
4. Elder COSTALES, Emilito – DAVAO MISSION
5. Elder DUMO, Norman Dion – NAGA MISSION (my cousin and brother of Sister Diwata Dumo)

They are presently holding sacred callings in the Church to help build the kingdom of God here on earth, more specifically in our own Branch and District. Not only that mga Kapatid, leaders and parents in our Branch are doubling their efforts to send their sons and daughters in the mission field. Actually, as of September 2006, we have seven (7) valiant Missionaries who are still in the mission field, and two (2) who are still in the Missionary Training Center/MTC (date entry: September 9, 2006). To total, there are nine (9) Ambassadors of God who are firmed, courageous, and never doubted to serve the only source of all truths, and that is GOD! They were:
1. Elder AQUINO, Marvin – TACLOBAN MISSION (will be going home on October, this year)
2. Sister ARMAS, Vina Lynn – SAN PABLO MISSION (will be going home on December, this year)
3. Elder ARMAS, Joel – CAGAYAN DE ORO MISSION (sister niya si Sister Vina Lynn Armas)
4. Elder MEJIA, William – SAN PABLO MISSION (my first cousin, and kuya niya ung RM na si Elder Randy Mejia)
5. Elder BATERINA, Jeoffrey – CEBU MISSION (new in the Mission field)
6. Elder CALLEJO, Romeo – CAGAYAN DE ORO MISSION (new in the Mission field)
7. Elder FONTANOS, Eugene – BACOLOD MISSION (new in the Mission Field)

Note: Elders BATERINA, CALLEJO and FONTANOS are batchmates. Isn’t that amazing and wonderful?   

8. Elder BANIQUED, Mikeson – NAGA MISSION (still at the MTC)
9. Elder DUMRIQUE, Jonas – MANILA MISSION (still at the MTC)

Note: Elders BANIQUED and DUMRIQUE are batchmates! (",) (",) (",)

We are all proud of them! Our Full-Time Missionaries all over the world are called of God! I know that we are also Missionaries, through words and actions! Let us all support our Missionaries who comes from our own Wards/Branches! I know they need our help! I am very grateful I was given the opportunity to serve our Savior through Full-Time Mission! I will be forever grateful for my experiences in the Field, and became an instrument in the conversion of some of our brothers and sisters. I know it is the Holy Spirit that converts!

I love you all guys! Keep in touch always! I hope to see you all again and share your sweet Spirits! To my former companions, district mates, zone mates and all PSPM Missionaries, I missed you all.!!!

Love and Pray,

People are lucky here. 16 Aug 2006
Hi. Greetings.
People are very fortunate here in the San Pablo Mission.
As you know the P.S.P.M. covers a lot of Region 4.
The Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Quezon region is the richest among all the other regions in the Philippines in terms of investments from here and abroad.
Corporations from out of the country have invested money in billions in Region 4 much, much more than any other areas in either Luzon, Visayas or Mindanao.
There are numerous economic zones and companies found in the mission.
We should make the most of it and grab the opportunities being presented.
I hope many of you find this information useful.
Here's to health and prosperity.
May God look to all your welfares.

Ryan Griffin (2001-2003) 06 Jul 2006
I recently met Ryan Griffin (2001-2003 Alumni). He suffered a spinal cord
injury about a year ago that has left him paralyzed from the neck down.

His family maintains a blog at www.ryangriffin.blogspot.com that details
some of the trials, challenges, and blessings they have experienced since his injury.

My wife and I had a wonderful time reminiscing with him about the
Philippines and I'm sure he would love to hear from all he knew on his mission. He can be contacted via an email link on his blog.

Letter to Warren Davidson and Tra Taotua 14 Apr 2006
Warren and Tra,

This is being posted for both of you in the event you come along this site later down the road. It's about my latest visit to the mission. I was a bit apprehensive at first in posting it on a public website due to it's personal content. I hope that other readers will learn to respect and appreciate the contents of a letter that only those that experienced it can truly treasure. It is with this trust that I begin.

I got back from visiting the PI last night. I arrived in Japan wearing a t-shirt, shorts and tsinelas. Where only a few hours before I blended quite well with the crowd, now I stuck out like a glowing light bulb amidst Japan's professionals. The majority of the people here are dressed in shirts, ties, and suits. So just picture that in your mind... I also arrived in Misawa (8 hours north of Tokyo) to find it raining and cold. Perhaps it was expressing what I was feeling that moment... I didn't realize how much I missed my mission.

I went to visit a couple of areas. One was Canlubang and the other was Alaminos. The members from Alaminos sends their best to you. They want to thank you for your service there. They couldn't stop asking how both of you were. I tried to fill them with as much as I could. All truths of course since none will benefit from speculated tsismis.

I informed them that both of you are married and have children. They were happy. They asked when I was going to get married... I laughed and told them she keeps telling me no.

Do you remember Tatay Rosario? The only one in his family of 5 daughters and wife that had not yet joined the church? He is now a member and sealed in the temple. Best thing is that he still goes to Church. We talked for sometime and he mentioned how strict I was and about the times he said I got mad at him but I reminded him that it was he who would hide and get mad whenever we came! His daughter Mylene was there chuckling as well. At least she remembered the truth :)

Sister Perez is still active and do you remember Carmela? Still active and so is their youngest daughter Nancy. The talkative one. Sister Perez speaks volume of how involved Nancy is in Young Womens. In fact their whole family, which includes Tatay and all 4 of her children, are now members of the Church, Sister received her endowments. I don't remember whether they have been sealed. Her brother-in-law is also very active in the Church. He is the Ward Mission Leader now. Yeah, from one member, there are now 6 very active members of the Church. Far different from when we were teaching them.

I still remember her story and what their whole family went through when she decided to be baptized. They are now living in a sturdier home made of concrete blocks instead of the bamboo and scrap pieces they would find. A missionary offered to adopt Carmela when she was very sick but she refused. I commended her for her decision.

Also, do you remember Sister Bassett? They also have a home now made of cemento. Each walls are now built of solid bricks instead of the blankets and other thrown materials like before. Tatay Bassett is also now a member. She kept talking about the time she received a blessing from us. I don't remember the exact event but she said it was during the time she was having the hardest time and that blessing gave her strength and peace to continue on.
Do you remember their son that would go with us? He passed away many years ago unexpectedly but they see his death as a temporary thing. They look forward to being with him again one day. Only this Church has that authority and doctrine and they know it. They are living it. She also said (and many others) that they didn't recognize me at first because "tumaba ako" and "pumuti". Imagine that. I finally got whiter. They also said I looked more Japanese.

Tatay Magno walked me to many of the members home. Many I did not know or meet during my time there. I had forgotten how big Alaminos was! Most of the roads, especially where the riles used to be, are now made of concrete.

Tatay was very thrilled that one of their former missionaries came to visit them. They speak highly of each one that has served in their area. They also spoke highly of their very own missionary serving in Pampanga. She was assigned in the same ward I was visiting. One of the young men I previously taught in Canlubang was blessing his first born son. He moved to Pampanga. Small world, eh?

Alaminos will now be having 4 missionaries.

There was a time when the Alaminos branch shrunk in numbers due to certain circumstances but it is now a developing ward and the mission home is right behind the new chapel (which is also next to the newly built Iglesia ni Cristo). I'll post pictures next time, of the mission home that is.

Sad thing though, Sister (Nanay) Magno passed away this March. President Shippey came back to visit from Batangas, I think that's where they said he moved to.

Do you remember Felix, the one with that big smile? He is now a proud father of 5 children and still very involved in the Church. I didn't see him because he was at work but I did get to talk to him on his cell phone. Yeah, cell phone is a commodity there. Everyone has a cell phone.

The Church is going strong in the Philippines. It's consistent and speedy growth is a welcome challenge. As before, training leaders is something that they need. But that is a welcomed challenge. I was able to contact a few of our mission friends and I was impressed with their involvement in the Church in more ways than one. The returned missionaries play a vital role in the foundation of the Church.

In the other branches and wards I visited, many of their leaders are young return missionaries. It was humbling to see our peers very committed to the Church and dedicated in helping it grow. One couple I spoke with mentioned that as tempting as it is for them to leave the Philippines, they know the prophets have counseled them to stay and build the church, ("When you know what the prophets have said, you do them"). While there are those that are choosing to leave the Philippines, they are obeying the prophets counsel in faith. It was said in more than one conversation how they rely on paying their tithes. One mentioned how it was their family's insurance. They are holding the prophets to their word and they are recognizing the blessings from it.

I stayed at the patron house for one night and to see many saints, some traveled more than 24 hours by boat, participate in temple ordinances during Holy Week to go to the temple proved to me that the Church is gaining a very strong foothold. Where three years ago, there were a few native Filipino saints serving in the temple, this time there was an influx of older couples serving. It was a sight to behold! As amazing as this was, this is still only the beginning...

Among the latest thing about the church:

All investigators are being asked to perform community service prior to baptism, pay tithing after they are taught and accept the principle... It is also being said that it won't be long until the Philippines will be self-reliant when it comes to providing missionaries native to the Philippines.

The members and missionaries I met are very excited about the growth and the challenges the Philippines is experiencing. It was a rejuvenating experience to visit the mission.

Also, each branch/ward that are supporting missionaries are now being held accountable. The missionary can be sent home should the branch/ward fail to miss a payment (no matter the pledge amount) of their commitment to support the missionary. So far none has been sent home yet.

Elder Oaks left a lasting positive impression in the Philippines. One of the most valued principle is the importance of maintaining the gospel culture over anything else.

It was a great visit. As I walked with Tatay Magno, the memories came flooding back. I walked past the old house where we stayed. It is now occupied by a family. I remembered the wailing pig during fiesta time, and the spider nest on the window sill and also the time when Elder Taotua and I didn't have any cancelled appointment so we ran to our apartment, changed our church shoes to our running shoes and ran to our next appointment. We did not have any spare time that was wasted that day.

There are also some members I couldn't find or was surprised to hear that they have chosen other paths.

I write this letter to both of you to send the members best and gratitude to your service. They remember you quite well and think of you often. To them you will always be their Elder. A title no longer but a friend. Someone they know and esteem to be the person that introduced them correctly to the Savior. They are doing well in maintaining that commitment.

Best to both of you,

Jerome Roque

Victoria Or Mindoro 27 Nov 2005
Hello everyone and happy holidays! I'm enjoying it here in northern Japan. In a couple more weeks, I'll be learning the art of snowboarding. I'll send pictures...of me rolling down the hills.

Can anyone help me by answering these questions?

1) Does anyone have an address or know of a way to get the address, for any members or the Church meetinghouse in Victoria Oriental Mindoro?

2) How about Sariaya Quezon?

I've moved around quite frequently and have lost most of my addresses for them. I'd like to contact anyone from my areas and send them a Christmas card this season.

Again, enjoy the Christmas season!

Ingat sila sa inyo!
