Next Reunion 16 Sep 2003
I was wondering about the reunions held every year for the alumni that served with President and Sister Davies. I haven't seen them since they left the island of Puerto Rico. Do they have those every year during the April general conference or during October also? An information would be welcome. Thank you!

Gatonejos 31 Jul 2003
I'm completely serious about these things existing. I'm not questioning whether or not they exist, I held the things...just didn't take the pictures. :) They do exist, and they walk strangely because of their odd rabbit feet with cat legs.

I'm seriously not playing a joke, and I wasn't overdoing the Malta beforehand. Saw them with my own eyes and picked them up a number of times. These things are freakin real. And the reason why I'm so interested in finding pictures is because of all of these sites saying it's impossible to breed the two. Definitely not impossible...not on God's island.

gatonejos, or cabbits. 31 Jul 2003
Sorry, no such luck. These things do not exist. Here's a cool website that explains it pretty well. Be sure to check out the additional links at the top where it mentions Manx cats being mistaken for the legendary cabbit. http://www.lairweb.org.nz/tiger/cabbits.html

Kind of like on the Simpsons where Lisa goes into Chief Wiggum's petting zoo of strange creatures.

Chief Wiggum- "The mysterious Esquilax, a horse, with the head of a rabbit, AND the BODY of a rabbit!"
*rabbit hops away*
Lisa- "come back, mr. rabbit"
Chief Wiggum- "Esquilax! It's an Esquilax!"

Gatonejo's 30 Jul 2003
At the risk of sounding rediculous, has anybody ever seen the half rabbit half cat hybrids in Morovis? If so, do you have pictures you can send me?

I served in Morovis in 96, and a lady named Maria had these unbelievable hybrids of cats and rabbits. She had the parent cat and rabbit, too! The offspring had heads of rabbits, and tails of cats, and vice versa, and even their fur was half soft rabbit fur and half courser cat fur. This is not a joke, I am completely serious.

All I remember about her is that her dad had a hamburger stand by the side of the road and made AWESOME hamburgers (I sometimes wonder if it was the hybrid meat). At the time, I remember thinking the animals were unusual, but I didn't think it was UNUSUAL unusual. Now, nobody in America believes me that they existed, and I desperately want pictures.

Anyway, some people say the chupacabras is a wicked hybrid. I know the gatonejo's were a real hybrid. One thing is certain though, there is some funky love in the air in Puerto Rico. (maybe that's the coqui secret to survival).

p.s. I've found 5 or 6 sites that say that it is entirely completely impossible for those two species to produce offspring, and that gatonejos are a myth. I know what I saw, and when I return to PR, I will be there with my digital camera.

Hurtin' buck 28 Jul 2003
There was a time when the missionaries weren't allowed to say chuck wagon or hurt-n-buck, specifically when it was toward another missionary. Pres Barney did that. I gues it never really died. Chuckwagon was rarely used for anything other than a lazy Missionary, and Hurtin' buck was applied to just about everything from food to clothes.

Recipes 25 Jul 2003
As the webmaster of this site and a returned alumnus, I would LOVE to post a page of recipes from the island. Unfortunately, I never did get any while I was there. I've been wishing I could show my wife some of the many varieties of Rice and Beans but I can't. If anyone has recipes that they'd be willing to share, send them to me and I will start a page with recipes on it.

hurtin' buck dog 22 Jul 2003
for those of you that are still interested, back in the "good old days" 1983-1984 we also used the term Buck....as in "wow, that's a hurtin' buck dog..."

As for the Term Chuck.... sorry, no idea!!!

I am interested in meetings Where I served, Lares, Cayey,Yauco, Aibonito, Vega Alta, Vieques.

Movies 02 Jul 2003
Sorry it took me so long to get these up. My laptop crashed and I had to fix it.

Here are the four movies that A. Maas gave me.

Maas gave them to me in quicktime format. I re-encoded them to shrink them down about 6 times. The quality is still ok.

They are still large though, so it could take some time to view them. There are instructions on the page on what you need to do.

Enjoy.

You can put them up on my website if you want. I have all the disk space you need. Or you can register your own domain name and host it with me. Either way I can do it for ya.
